KC Star article about KU game
i enjoy the star. they do cover KU, KState and Mizzou mostly but they pay some attention to IState and are not negative towards us usually. i like how the story starts out talking about rushing the field...for those of you who deem it necessary, here is a players perspective. www.kansascity.com | 10/01/2008 | KU knows it can’t have letdown against Iowa State

Re: KC Star article about KU game
I've always felt like KU is sort of our kindred spirit in football. Both programs have struggled quite a bit, and their success last year and most likely this year are glimpses, I think, of where our team will be in a couple years. Prior to the last couple years, our games with KU have usually been pretty close. We haven't beaten them in 3 years, so it would be nice to do it again.

Interesting article. I was at that game and words can't describe how much it sucked. As much as people say that one game doesn't matter it wouldn't surprise me if it saved Mangino's job and cost Mac his.

He's probably one of those guys that thinks he's too "important" to celebrate with the "common" fan.

Very nice article. So true that if we had won that game at KU in 2005 we wouldn't know who Gene Chizik is today.

I remember watching Colorado lose to Nebraska the night before, giving us a chance to clinch a spot in the Big XII title game. And I remember late in the game thinking " they can't do this to me two years in a row." The feeling I had after that game was the worst I had had since half time of the 2002 Iowa game. To top things off, quite a few Kansas fans thought it would be best to celebrate by coming over to the Iowa State section and taunting our fans. Re: KC Star article about KU game
I'm going to throw out a different perspective on what the first part of the story was trying to get to...
I think the writer was saying that the player didn't want the fans to rush the field because it was Iowa State and Iowa State shouldn't be a "big win" for any program (ahem, besides iowa), given our history. So, I think he was trying to say "I would have prefered the fans to not rush the field because that meant it was a huge victory for us."
If it had been us, I would've been fine with the fans rushing the field for a victory over a top 25 team.

I'm not sure that game "cost" Mac his job - it was probably the beginning of the end. But I'm pretty sure that the '06 KU game was the final straw in Mac's career.
We were getting hammered at home against KU - and a few of us went out just before halftime to get some drinks. It was a ghost town - at halftime! North lots were half full at best. There was quite literally nobody around. That was until the streams of people came and left the game for good.
That was enough to show that the fans had lost faith in Mac, IMO.

Bingo. Interesting to see Dan's quote as well. Seems he has a realistic view of why things played out like they did. We win that game, he's still coaching here. Pretty simple. Maybe, 10 years from now, we'll be glad we lost that game in '05...

That day and the loss to Michigan State in the Elite 8 were two of the most demoralizing "Cyclone days" of my life. The worst, of course, was the passing of Pete Taylor. In a weird way it felt like I lost my closest friend. Those...days...sucked
