PA Announcer ad libs -yeah or nay?

I have to say, I'm loving them. He doesn't do it too often, and only when really deserved.

First game - "Mr Jarvis, meet Mr Taylor"

Today - "[So and so] is hearing the bells of Iowa State thanks to...."

Don't recall any others.

I don't know, but I find it pretty funny.

I was there when they crucified my Lord
I held the scabbard when the soldier drew his sword
I threw the dice when they pierced his side
But I've seen love conquer the great divide

Editorial comments like those have no place at a college game, and maybe not at any level.

Down, distance, spot, carrier, tackler, and the occasional 'get loud'. That's it.

I guess I missed that at the the Kent State game. I agree, they have no place. Save all of that for the radio and tv guys.

I think the comments are a good idea. If we can't "editorialize" on our own field for our own fans, who can?

If you like learning something everyday, you're going to love dementia.

Big time YEA - It's our home field! No PA announcer I know of to date has ever won an Edward R. Murrow award. I loved it.

Love it too.

Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are even incapable of forming such opinions.

I thought I heard him say "bells of Iowa State" today but wasn't sure. I like it.

I thought I caught that one too, and thought it was pretty funny.

This is the sarcasm pirate. If you see him anywhere in my post, it means I was being sarcastic. Thank you. Actually there's a good chance I'm being sarcastic even if I forgot the pirate. I'm not to be taken too seriously.

You can bet that from now on I'm going to pay more attention to what he's saying. If there's a zinger in there, I want to hear it!

As someone who has spent about two decades in the PA and radio fields, I think I'm qualified to give my opinion on the matter.

Comments like "That's gonna leave a mark" and "He'll feel that tomorrow" are idiotic, and sound incredibly bush league when made over a public address system.
