Re: Bates and neutral colors?
Didn't Nebraska already have a quarterback that couldn't win the starting position at another school? I didn't think NU ever wanted him at QB. Anyways, I think they'd be crazy to promise him that starting job in 2 years. You are better off grooming what you have already recruited. I still don't think his trip to that game had a lot to do with what happened today. IF you ask me, fmy perception of what I've read here is that his daddy never got over him not wearing a big red N. And since he wasn't going to be a starting QB this year. Might as well pat my baby on the head and tell him, "We'll find you a QB job sonny." I will admit, I don't like not having him as a back up. That might affect some decisions the coaches make. In the end though, we still have the same team on the field that we had during the Kansas game.
I still can't get over how classless of a move this was. If this is his character. "I quit because I'm not getting my way." So be it. Take that attitude to a different school. We don't need it on this team. I know one thing, he definitely had a better shot at starting here next year than he will any where else in Div. 1.
Re: Bates and neutral colors?
His dad wears Fusker colors
Re: Bates and neutral colors?
What he wore to the game had nothing to do with it.
Him just being at the game on the other hand said plenty.

TO will just hire Bates Sr. as a football inflation pressure inspector for about $300,000/year. Problem solved...
Re: Bates and neutral colors?
He could transfer to UNI... a la Benny Sapp.

I did see him wear purple one time. You heard it here first!!!
Re: Bates and neutral colors?
I'll only believe him being at the game in "neutral" colors means something if:
A)he says it meant something
B)he transfers to Va Tech.
I will however confirm he's a freaking moron if
A)he confirms it meant something
B)he transfers to NU
C)he quits our team midway through the season with no personal advantage of not sticking it out the rest of the season getting playing time in a BIG XII schedule and practice in an D1 program before going to find another program to try to start at (ah crap, C just one)

Oh sweet Jesus, He's going to Northwestern and Iowa's going to have an even more embarassing loss to them two years from now.

But there is nothing stopping him from going to a JC, even starting in December, and earning an AA degree next year.
If he does not play FB at the JC, he can then transfer to NU and have 2 to play 2, and still be within his 5 to play 4 since he never redshirted.
This makes a lot of sense and I never really thought of this. The conference rule could be thrown out the window as he is transferring from a JC and not a Big 12 school and JC transfers are eligible right away and I don't think he would have to sit a year to meet NCAA requirements as he isn't coming from another D1 school but a JC. I'm not sure if this would work but if it did I could see him doing this so he would have 2 years at Neb.

So you are saying that Kirkwood is likely going to get our playbook?
OH SNAP!

Doesn't save the year, the rule specifically states that it applies to both 4-4 and 4-2-4 transfers.

Once again, this won't work for PB. It is the Big Ten conference that allows league transfers to regain the year penalty by paying their own way. The Big XII and most all other conferences do not. You lose a year at almost all places when you transfer within a conference. I'm guessing that many people have the wrong idea here because of the publicity that Recker received on his transfer. Just keep in mind that it was a Big Ten situation.

I know hes a coward and a quitter...but I would take Bates ANY DAY over Pat Grace. Grace is a sorry excuse for a quarterback and student athlete. I'm surprised he wasnt one of the few football players suspended and or arrested being I've seen him at least 3 times picking fights outside of the bars up here. Bring it up to Cedar Falls you quitter!

What does your sign say the stock market is going to do?
