Service Academies
ISU football: Cyclones to play all three service academies | DesMoinesRegister.com | The Des Moines Register
Surprised no one has commented on this yet. I think it's pretty cool that we've scheduled Army, Navy, and Air Force in the next decade. On the other hand, I was disappointed to hear that we're doing another home-and-home with UNLV. At least that's quite a ways in the future, maybe I'll be ready to go again by that point... holy crap I'll be 41!

Re: Service Academies
Anyone with the opportunity when it comes around should visit the academies. They are majestic places... you'll love both Colo Springs and Annapolis.
It is nice to see our home game vs Army was finalized!

Re: Service Academies
I think it is great we are playing them all. Going to the Army game out there was an absolute blast. The campus is beautiful, and the stadium is amazing. Playing UNLV home and away is fine by me. I missed this trip. I said I wouldn't go back to Shreveport, and I had a much better time the second trip. So maybe you will too with LV?
As for being old, I just had a birthday. Getting older sucks.

As for being old, I just had a birthday. Getting older sucks. I've been to Vegas several times, and hopefully will be back several more before I'm 40. I just can't picture myself going back to that stadium again, but I'm sure I will change my mind in a decade or so .
As for the service academies, my friend got married at the Naval Academy last Feb. I saw their stadium just from the outside in passing. The reception was in the same building as their basketball court, so that was kind of cool to see. I could consider going to either Army or Air Force just as a fun trip, I guess we'll see when it gets closer.

Re: Service Academies
Aww we wont' be in Annapolis until 2019?
I was looking forward to being able to an ISU game without having to fly.
Heck Annapolis is closer to me than the Airport I fly out of... and the Naval academy is still 1-1/2 away Oh we will fight, fight, fight for Iowa State, and may her colors ever fly!!! In Accordance with Prophecy -

No not particuarly... given that the only road games I've been to have been in the last 3 years. We have yet to win a road game in that time span...
Yet for some reason my friends still blame for our loss to TCU because I wasn't there.... Oh we will fight, fight, fight for Iowa State, and may her colors ever fly!!! In Accordance with Prophecy -
Re: Service Academies
It's going to be hard to cheer for just the Cyclones during these games....
Army – Sept. 26, 2009 in Ames
Air Force – Sept. 7, 2013 in USAFA, Colo. and Sept. 6, 2014 in Ames
Navy – Sept. 22, 2018 in Ames and Sept. 7, 2019 in Annapolis, Md.

That brings up an interesting point... Do I cheer for my ala mater or my employer?
(Obviously it'll be for ISU but... I'm sure I'll catch some **** for it in the office)

Re: Service Academies
My dad lives about 45 minutes from Annapolis. We stopped by the stadium the last time I was out there, so if I have a road game or bye week at Coe, you can bet that I'm heading out there for this game.
Obviously I'm not going to know this for about 10 years, as we don't really plan our schedules 11 years in advance like the big boys.

The ISU/AF game will be an easy decision for me, being there in ISU gear and I am sure I will do the same when Army comes to Ames but I will cheer quietly when Army does something right.

Re: Service Academies
I wonder what the odds are of my brother still with the Nats in 2019... Shoot, he will qualify for the MLB pension after that year.

I would hope if your Bro is still around by then he will be outdrawing their payroll limits or is maybe back with them for a sweetheart deal cause he loves the area.
*I take that back they do have 9 guys that were making $1M or more this year, from the numbers I could find. Scary thing is that 6 of those 9 ended on the DL it looks like. http://www.sportsline.com/mlb/teams/roster/WAS
