Carlson redshirted at his JUCO so he came in as a sophomore - whether he plays or not this year he'll still be a junior next year.

Dedrick hasn't been on the backside until last game and most of the pressure came from missed blocks by the TE. Hulbert has played LT for a large part of the season. It wasn't until Nebraska( I didn't see alot of Baylor) that Dedrick moved back to LT, Lamaak back to RT and KO to RG. I think the OL experiment of Dedrick to RT, Lamaak to RG and Hulbert to LT was a failure and the staff feels that as well. We will see how KO looks at RG and if the OL can do what they did last season now that they are back at their positions and Knapp should be back. It looks like the staff has decided to prepare for next year and get KO ready. We will see if Dedrick continues with most of the snaps or if he starts sharing with Hicks. We will see if the OL works better with Knapp in there. His loss was huge. If he is in fact back
AS far as the rest...Just My opinion:
QB- We are fine with AA and JT. would love to see the recruit this weekend commit
RB- Who knows- Robinson needs to block better. We have Williams and Schwartz and I am really excited about Blankenship. throw in white and we have depth but do we have a playmaker?
WR- We will be fine. Darks, Johnson, Hamilton, Jones and hopefulley Reynolds (c'mon money). I hope Beshears is that waterbug WR we needs so badly in our offense.
TE- Help me here. Hoopefully our line can block better so we can get these guys in the middle of the field.
DE- Wow we need a DE. Losing Taylor will hurt and we need depth there. Of course we don't know much about Maggit and Laing. Lyle has shwon some splashes and Parker is solid but wwe need a serious pas rusher
DT- Frere, Johnson, Ruemplhammer, McDonough should be solid. Johnson would have been our best here.
LB- We need instant depth here unless we convert to a 4-2-5. Bibbs being gone this year has killed us. Maybe Furgeson and Hamlin help out next year but i really like Kleinand Mosby coming in
CB- this has by far been our greatest upgrade in talent when 2 true frosh replace starters. We have depth here with Benton, Johnson, Banks, Bell, McDowell, and they only get better with time.
S- Brown's injury has hurt us and we really need to get some depth here. Looks like the staff thinks so as well as they have hit S very hard. Butler should be able to step in as could Atwater (if he comes here). I really like the Broomfield kid but he will only be a frosh. Throw in Smith reutnring and a Sandvig and maybe Brown gets a medical RS who knows. then do any of the CB's change positions?
With AA’s shoulder injury, Bates could have played most of the Baylor game, all of the Nebraska game, all of the Texas A&M game and then who knows? I wonder if Bates is kicking himself right now?
WOW taz you should be a coach!
I am... my team had one loss and was one play from winning the NYFL Superbowl. A 14-7 loss and two possessions inside the redzone with no points. Oh wait you aren't talking Pee Wee football. :notworthy:
Actually, this week I have tried to find the reasoning behind our conservative offense that last game. It was so bad there had to be some explanation. This is what I came up with...
1) AA's shoulder was worse then what we thought. This prevented us from going down field and allowing AA to run. He had 7 carries and I think 1-2 were designed. It also affected his touch on the short passes.
2) Tiller's redshirt- Again this will limit AA's carries. Darks will come in if needed but he wasn't ready last week. He is a little more ready this week.
3) They switched the OL back. I really think they tried to shore up the middle by moving Lamaak into RG. They thought DD was talented enough to make the switch to RT and Hulbert (or Hicks) was serviceable at LT. They just didn't gel. They have now said screw it. Let's get KO ready for next year and were weren't all that bad at the end of the year anyway. KO will be an upgrade from Schmeling last year and with Knapp back we just have more talent on the line than this time last year. The switch happened last game so again this limited the offense as the OL got acclimated. Not to mention KO was a little lost which would be expected. With AA hurt, Alvarez at C and KO at RG it basically took away our middle option.
So there you have it. AA couldn't throw downfield, the OL change limited anything up the middle, Tiller's redshirt and AA's injury took away AA's running, AA's accuracu from the injury took away the middle of the field.
That left us with the 6 plays we called over and over again the last two weeks.
That is how I stay optimistic. The OL will be greatly improved this week, AA is feeling a lot better, Darks can come in for a play or two so Tiller's RS is safe, and aTM' run defense sucks!
ISU wins 24-14
I want Tiller to be great in the worst way, but I have watched him during warm-ups and even after Austen had the bum shoulder and had to get the cortisone shot for the Nebraska game, he was still throwing a better ball than Tiller. I'll hold further judgment for now.
Then I don't know how we can say that Sumrall is not a deep threat. He might not be in other years, but this year he is our only deep threat and has 5 TDs on the season. Again, he might not be our deep threat next year if he were only a junior, but right now he is it and Jones is more our possession (although I think they bring comparable skills to the table and have been really pleased with what Jones has done this year).
This raises the question as to whether or not he comes out tomorrow wearing a different number. As I understand the NCAA numbering rules, the only mandatory requirement is for OL to be numbered from 50-79. Various number ranges for other positions are "strongly recommended" with QB's being from 1-49. He would have to do it prior to the game as I'm pretty sure that you can't change jersey numbers during a game.
