tailgating tent on asphalt
...anyone have great ideas on how to secure a tailgating tent in the asphalt lots? I have always used stakes in g7, not sure i'm strong enough to pound them into the paved parking lots though... -

Buckets of concrete and plant some bolts in there to go through the holes in the bottom of the supports. Then use a wingnut to secure it.

...not sure that i am leaving G7, but just in case there's an opportunity I want to be able to party on dry ground tomorrow and not come out and see my tent sitting on top of someone's car :)
Those are good ideas - thanks guys. i have seen small sand bags that appear to velcro to the legs, but not sure i can find something like that before tomorrow.

Re: tailgating tent on asphalt
To anchor my tent, I cut 12" sections of 4" PVC and glued one end cap on, filled with sand, then glued on the second end cap. I then strap to each tent leg with a small bungee cord. It seems to work well and it is not so obtrusive as some other anchor type materials.

4 cases of beer.
If you end up drinking away all the weight, you won't care if it blows away.

A sledge hammer and 4 good stakes should do the trick -

I guess if you don't want to hang on to sandbags and had the means to transport, you could get a few 5 gallon buckets and lids and fill them with water.
Dump the water when done.

Re: tailgating tent on asphalt
most places that carry tents will have the velcro sandbags to attach to the poles, but they may not have the actual sand... Otherwise these have worked for us: -

You guys aren't thinking outside the box enough. The absolute best way to stake to asphalt is 4 multipurpose screws. Bring your cordless drill and it's a piece of cake. Weights are way too much trouble (and expensive).
