We should threaten to switch conferences.

I do not think we should switch conferences. But I think we should threaten to do so. I don't think the Big 12 could really afford to lose us, even for a season. Losing us would upset things more than the powers-that-be in Dallas would ever admit. For one thing, it would be embarrassing for a conference called the "Big 12" to have 11 teams. For another, the only replacements that I can think of are in Texas (UTEP, Texas Christian, etc.), which would upset the north-south balance of the conference. Third, I think if we were to leave, it might have a domino effect; leaving the conference just might be the excuse Colorado has been looking for to leave for the PAC 10, and for Missouri to leave for the Big 10.

I think what we should do is threaten to leave the conference, unless we get some kind of concessions from the conference. These concessions could include more games on TV, for both basketball and football, better revenue-sharing, etc. Basically, even the playing field to allow us to better compete. I think the Big 12 would give in, for the reasons I listed above.

I don't even know where to begin here, but the Big 12 would have schools bashing down the door to get in and doing something this freaking ridiculous... God the board is insane today.

I agree, all those big 12 execs will be worried about those business cards they just ordered that say Big 12 on them! We'll have them right where we want them!

I totally agree with this. I mean, what if a conference had eleven teams but claimed to only have 10 in their name???....wait a second...

Talk is that Arkansas is a possible addition to the Big 12 regardless, adding USF to the SEC. That could be for ISU or CU, if CU in fact goes to the PAC 10 w/ BYU. Then the PAC 10 would have the required 12 teams for a championship game.

I do not think this is a bluff you really want to try.

Yeah, guess what the offices would say - bye, and don't let the door hit you on the way out...

And with the very next phone call the Big XII offices are calling up TCU and telling them that after 13 years they finally have an opening in the conference for them.

You don't make idle threats with someone especially when you KNOW that someone holds all the trump cards.

We've been on TV quite a bit this year in football. Much more than we've deserved considering the quality of play. In basketball I don't think the TV revenues are entirely based on TV appearances. So as long as I get to see the game (which I typically do in central Iowa), I really can't complain.
