Re: Interesting Stat
Just curious, why are you comparing us against Iowa? I'd rather see how we stack up against the rest of the Big 12.
We need to get some more QB pressure...

Re: Interesting Stat
What is interesting about us both being bad?

Re: Interesting Stat
Maybe to show that Iowa's defense is managing to play well without high sack numbers?
Alas, you have to look at QB Hurries and Knockdowns to get the full story. I know those are kept in game, but are they tallied throughout the season too?

We need to get some more QB pressure... Because everyone says how DOMINANT Iowa's lines are...

I think it's an interesting stat. I would have guessed Iowa's stats would be much better.

Re: Interesting Stat
It is interesting because J Miller always tells about how much better Iowa's lines are than everyone else in the country.

Re: Interesting Stat
We SHOULD have more sacks than Iowa. We play teams that pass 40 times a game. The Big 10 has a rule in place that you can only throw 20 times a game....don't they?!?!

Re: Interesting Stat
Sacks are a very small part of overall defense. Since we are in the stat mode today, I have some stats for you.
Out of 119 D-1 teams, this is where we rank in the following categories...
Total Defense - 109th out of 119
Pass Defense - 111th out of 119
Pass Efficiency Defense - 116th out of 119, better than only SMU, North Texas, and Washington. Those teams are a combined 2-24.
Pass Completion Percentage - We allow teams to complete 68.34% of their passes against us. That is 117th of 119. Only Buffalo and Washington are worse.
Basically, among BCS conferences, the only team with a worse defense than ours is Washington. Washington is 0-8. Again, for the most part, sacks are a very meaningless defensive statistic.

Re: Interesting Stat
All of ISU's sacks are on 1st or 2nd down... followed by our opponent getting the exact number of yards needed on 3rd down. -
Re: Interesting Stat
It seems, when we finally get through the line, we get a sack. Or if our Backs are able to hold coverage for long enough. Or their QB falls down. The big thing is we don't put consistent pressure on the opposing QB at all. Sacks are a very little part of the whole thing. We just plain and simple don't get pressure. Most the time their QB has all day to sit back there and decide who to throw to. I watched the Illinois Iowa game on Saturday. And to say their line is a lot more physical than ours is an understatement. They may not be getting the sacks, but they really crash the line hard and are really in there causing trouble for the other team during a good part of the game. We maybe see 3 or 4 really good defensive line plays all game. It's not about getting tackles for a loss or sacks. It's about gettting in the backfield and making them think about what to do next. We don't do that.

Re: Interesting Stat
Cover Two has been a big success for our safeties. We are better than Buffalo and Washington, two austere programs since one has a coach that was fired and the other one was the worst team in America two years ago.
Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style. -

I thought that the original setup was one for corners and one for safeties. Too often it appears that they are not on the same page.

No kidding. Against A&M, four different times they had a guy with literally no defender closer than 15 yards from all directions right in the middle of the field. I know we're not that unathletic so it has to be that we're out of position or at least I hope.
