Should we have another rivalry game?

We are getting to that time of year when a lot of rivalry games are played. Purdue and IU play for the Oaken Bucket, Utah and BYU play the Holy War, etc. Our neighbor to the north, Minnesota, plays three of these games a year for the jug, ax, and pig. I think these rivalry games are fun and are good for college football

We play only two -- one for the Cy-Hawk Trophy which is kind of lame, and one for the Telephone Trophy which hardly anyone knows about. I think we should have another one. Maybe with Nebraska, they're a rival dating back to the Big 8 days and a neighboring state. That game would be even better if it was played for some type of trophy like a tomahawk, rock, or some corn, especially once it gets established. Or maybe a traveling trophy with Kansas that tied both football and basketball together would be good. Hopefully Jamie and the Cyclone Club will consider adding a trophy game in the future.

Yeah because a gimmick trophy with nothing behind it is so cool.

I would say something with Kansas State, since we will have that neutral site series...

No, all we need to do is change the Cy-Hawk trophy to an Ear of Corn. The Corn Bowl. The Cy-Hawk trophy is freakin ugly

Missouri is a rivalry game with a trophy. Good enough for me. I mean look at it. It looks sweet.

Could we play Nebraska for the Hawkeyes? I mean, they could use another state school. The team that wins, gets to deal with them for a year.

Who the heck would want to start a rivalry with ISU in football. We are viewed as below everyone, and this year we are proving it.

I have to agree here. Typically, a rivalry is based on a long historic matchup that has traditionally been pretty competitive. You also usually have schools that are pretty close geographically.

I think given our history in football and the schools that are close to us, we are maxed out on rivalry games.

.... Plus creating a trophy game without history is just plain stupid. (see iowa and wisky and the heartland trophy or whatever the crap some corporate sponsor cooked up a few years back)

Grate minds think alike Jake...I was just thinking the same thing..Play K-State the last game of the year in Kansas City and call it the AG Bowl...I really like the idea and I think that K-State and the big 12 would go along with the idea...

Let Mizzou play Kansas ...Why should the Ag schools in Iowa and Kansas give a rip less...

We'll have our own rivalry game and it will be Corn from the North versus the Wheat from the Kansas Prairie and we'll all have a grate time!!!!

I'm all for having an official rivalry w/K-State. We've played them for years, and have similar colleges, fans, and historic success, their run through the 90's/early 00's not withstanding.

Agree, and rivalry games aren't needed anyway.
Penn State doesn't have a rivalry game, and they seem to do OK...

I think the "rivalry" part of the Mizzou game should be dropped altogether. No one cares. I doubt the words "telephone trophy" have been mentioned in a coach's pregame speech in the last 10 years.

Why not Texas? We are the school furthest north in the Big 12, they are the furthest south. We are the poorest school in the Big 12, they are the richest. We have no tradition of success, they have immense tradition. We could call it the Disparity Bowl.
