Some good games in Western Iowa
Everybody keeps talking about these high school games in central and eastern Iowa, so I though I would throw a thread in for the teams in Western Iowa!
- IKM/Manning (11-0) vs. Missouri Valley (9-2) - 2A
- Harlan (10-1) vs. Bishop Heelan Catholic Sioux City (11-0) - 3A
- Carroll (11-0) vs Clear Lake (11-0) - 3A
- AHST/Avoca (11-0) vs. Madrid (10-1) - A
Again, have to root for the home teams on these; IKM/Manning, Harlan, Carroll and AHST!!!

You can't forget Lenox Vs. East Union (8-man)
Both 10-1...
Lenox was absolutely horrible at 11-man but has been a force every year since they switched to 8-man. I think that East Union was their only Loss this year.
Go Tigers

I would like Heelan and Harlan to both lose, if possible.

I played Heelan in soccer for several years and their players were always cocky and had poor sportsmanship. Things may have changed now I guess.

Since Heelan has been in 3A I have not seen this, in fact, since the 3A move Heelan has been in state championship games in baseball, basketball (got crushed) and football (got crushed) each time beating Harlan to advance.

Go Tigers Not sure how beat Lenox but East Union's only loss was to Lenox and in the old system they wouldn't have even qualified for the playoffs. Sounds like a pretty wild game coming up.

I played Heelan in soccer for several years and their players were always cocky and had poor sportsmanship. Things may have changed now I guess. Harlan's success amazes me. The fact that it's not just one sport, but every sport every year they are extremely good. I've head Bladt and Osborn speak before and say that the reason they have success is because their athletes don't specialize in 1 sport. Those same kids out for football, are out for basketball, etc etc. Pretty sweet that they can do that and be very competitive in everything while being a fairly large 3A school.
Many small schools struggle to be competitive because you see kids wanting to specialize in their one sport. In order for small schools to be competitive in all sports, true athletes can't just specialize in 1 sport, they need to be out for multiple/all sports.
If a big 3A school can manage to be as good as they are without specializing, then certainly small schools can too.
