Re: Ames called worst BIG XII town
I can't believe we could not be Manhattan or Waco. Oh well. Go Big 12.

Whens the last time Forde has been to Ames?

Re: Ames called worst BIG XII town
I'm sure that's partially based on how small the town is, and that there is no way it can compete with bigger towns for things to do. However, that can be the allure of Ames, too. Less crowded, slower paced, no traffic...those can be positives.

Give me Ames over Manhattan, KS. And I give you the nod over Waco, even though I haven't been there.

Re: Ames called worst BIG XII town
I don't think it is the worst Big 12 town, but Ames does suck...

I spent a year in Waco one week. It is a typo. Is was originally named Wacko, after all the people who live there.

Re: Ames called worst BIG XII town
Hard to see that "ranking" considering Ames is usually in the running for the top rankings for places to raise a family, has a low crime rate and has a good school system.
He must be basing the rankings on some mythical formula because there is no way that Ames isn't in the top 5 towns in the Big XII.
While it might not compare to some places in terms of being pure sports towns, it is far and away the best family oriented town and most well balanced town of any Big XII school.
A program isn't built on one player and it doesn't succeed because of one player, thus a program won't fail if it doesn't get that one player. -

Agreed, Ames is a great town. If it was feasible for us to move there, we would in a heartbeat.

Forde is one of the best columnists around... IF he says its the worst then I'm sure he has his reasons... I do know that he has been to Ames in the last few years too...

Put it in that context, and I could see Forde having a point.

He must be basing the rankings on some mythical formula because there is no way that Ames isn't in the top 5 towns in the Big XII. Ames crime rate has sky rocketed in the past 2 years, and the Ames School system is less than stealler. There is a reason this town is growiing north, and it has a lot to do with people wanting to be in the Gilbert School District, which is all north of Bloomington Road.
Also, its an article about football, not on raising a family. Ames is probably in the bottom 3 on being attractive to recuits, if you look at the town itself, IMO.
