If you know the caveat, then you should know that he actually broke the record before he had a gazillion chances--his last several returns that game were basically a handful of yards, killing his ypr.
I'm going to take a big chance here and disagree with you because while you seem to know everything, I looked this one up and I'm pretty sure he broke the record on his 7th KO return. OSU kicked off three more times after that and one of those was a touchback, the only one of the game by either side. So there were only two more KO returns after the record was broken.
