I'd bet we could've played with an extra defender or two in the secondary and still got diced up. Really - I seriously believe that.
Even against some of the better secondary groups in CFB - if no one is pressuring the QB - eventually someone will get open.

Re: Asst. evalution
I think it's a combo of pressure on the QB and disrupting the timing. You need to bump the receivers and get them off thier routes. Unfortunately you really can't do that when your safeties are terrible.

Re: Asst. evalution
We have not had great pressure up front since Nick Leaders of Millard North graduated. Time to find a nose tackle with some wwwhhhhooommmppp. Nick was always shoving the center backwards into the qb.
Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style. -

I think there are two reasons we had to do that.
1. Our true freshman corners were not strong enough yet to get an effective bump on a big 12 receiver. A year of S&C should help.
2. Our safeties, or lack of safeties...

Of course we gave up points early in that game that we shouldn't have (turnovers.) Possibly part of the week's prep and just not enough time to get ready for all options that the opposing offense has? I don't believe that's a good excuse, but if there is time taken away from schemes to cover fundamentals it could be a contributing factor.

You can be lacking talent and still be within 5 yards of the WR. To me, either the players are too dumb to learn the defense or the coaches are poor at communicating it to them. What other reason could there be for letting guys run wide open through the secondary? I hope that it is just inexperience and learning new schemes. But if veterans like Hunley and James Smith can't learn it in two years, is it really a viable college defensive scheme? Maybe the Tampa 2 is too tough of a defense to learn in the amount of time that college players are able to contribute.

Re: Asst. evalution
Our safeties really were that bad, Koonz is a fine coach and has been with Chiz since his time as a GA. You can show somebody where they need to be everyday but theres not a whole lot you can do when that person cant think on their feet in a game situation. The DB coaches were fine. The safety position should be addition by subtraction this year.

Re: Asst. evalution
undersized, underskilled, underwhatever.......the tackling problem is clearly coaching. Unless/until that issue is fixed, we wont stop any B-12 offense.

My question to everyone is, "is the cupboard that bare?" And if it is /was what expectation do we have of our incoming players next year as 1st year starters?

How many guys there are solid, Big XII starting defensive linemen? How many are playing? As far as Big XII quality players on the DL, I would say the cupboard was pretty bare...

The defense is gonna look bad in that little triangle of doom created by the MLB and safeties, because none of them are too awesome at pass coverage.

Wasn't K Banks a juco. He got burned as much as anyone.
