Re: Stevie Hicks Found Dead...
Is it official? It was really a suicide? It's just really hard to believe. I didn't know him, but what everyone says is that he was all smiles all the time. Also the determination he played with. This guy played hurt more than anyone I can remember.. and the way he finished off every run. Just by the way he played you could tell he was a fighter... it's just hard to believe.

Re: Stevie Hicks Found Dead...
Back in 2003-2004...took my daughters up to campus to walk around...and we ran into Stevie in Memorial Union. Stevie took 10 minutes of his day to talk to both my girls and told them how Cyclone fans were the best and they should 'represent' with pride (very funny at the time since my girls were 5 and 6). My girls never forgot it.
This news broke their hearts over the weekend.
Rest in peace Stevie. We will never forget you.

Re: Stevie Hicks Found Dead...
From what I hear. The cops were on the scene trying to talk him down. This is pretty good info. They failed and Stevie passed away.

ISUCyclones, I don't want to turn this thread into a debate about suicide because it takes away from Stevie - he is defined by how he lived his life (which is wonderfully by all accounts), not by how he died. But I do want to comment on people like you who have trouble giving sympathy to others who've committed suicide.
Depression has every bit of a biochemical root cause as any other illness, and our knowledge of the human brain pales in comparison to the rest of the human body. Depression is not something that you can just "get over" and it's not something that a Christian can overcome simply because they are a Christian.
Just try to imagine yourself falling into a deep dark hole with no relief anywhere in sight. Just try to imagine a pain so bad and so enduring that even death becomes a welcome relief. Then pray very very hard that you or the people closest to you will never have to deal something so hopeless and so painful as severe depression.

Re: Stevie Hicks Found Dead...
I had an English class with Stevie when he was red shirting, he sure loved football and couldn't wait to get on the field. Seemed to be a very good individual from what I remember of that class. RIP Stevie.

Re: Stevie Hicks Found Dead...
Just saw this: Omaha.com Metro/Region Section
How is it that they don't say anything about it other than the cause of death was a head injury and it was "unsuspicious"?

Re: Stevie Hicks Found Dead...
An autopsy showed the head injuries resulted from “blunt force trauma ... from a fall,” Douglas County Attorney Don Kleine said today.
Nothing in the results indicates what may have caused a fall.
looks like plenty of info to me

Re: Stevie Hicks Found Dead...
Guys i just don't see Stevie bringing himself to commit suicide. I knew him fairly well and the last i spoke with him he was in Canada with his girlfriend. He had always been a upbeat, kindhearted, caring, family oriented person. Not only would he NOT commit suicide, he would never put his friends, girlfriend, or family through it. Even if he was depressed, broke-up with his girlfriend, injured and unable to play, Stevie was too grounded to ever bring himself to do such a thing. He had the world going for him, even if his football career never took off i know he had always wanted to be a Lawyer.
I'm still finding all this hard to believe. Personally I still question foul play, however accidents do happen... I believe the toxicology reports will be a big factor in figuring what happened along with where and who he was with Thursday night.
I guess all I’m saying is we should ALL wait until police actually conclude to what had happened. Nobody knows, including friends/family and strangers, what or how this happened
Miss ya buddy.

Sad, sad news. Someone needs to please tell me we will be wearing SH 27 stickers next year. It's sad to see our former football players passing away (Ennis, Chris, and now Stevie.) RIP
