Interesting football

Hey all you CYCLONE fans,

I was just poking around youtube and found this video from the 1945 Northwester vs. Iowa State game. While I was watching I noticed some/most of the plays that Iowa State were running (which started around the 1.12 mark) as an offense were used throughout the game. The qb would line up under center and then just before the snap he would turn around and the center would snap the ball to the half back and he would run the play... not sure what you would call it because I have never seen anything like it before and I've been watching football for 40 plus years. Could this be an early form of the Wildcat?

We need a serious upgrade on the OLine, and the D-Coordinator needs to go.

After watching that I think we need Catlett at QB next year with AA and ARob or Bo in the backfield.

Looks like an early form of the single wing with the spin back.
Not much different than the gun-2RB QB run game used today, except instead of having 8 guys on the line in tite, guys are spread out.

great find! i loved the break-away run around 2:30, when the cyclone defender never gave up!

They would not believe you one bit

The single wing formation was extremely popular in those days. It fell out of favor when the T formation rose to prominence. It wouldn't be unusual at all to see this formation in the 40s. The Wildcat is a "retro" formation, as opposed to this being a precursor to the Wildcat.

Just imagine what football is going to look like in 60 years or so. Probably be like 3 endzones, 2 balls in play, and a formation where the quarterback hikes it to the center.

Okay, maybe not that extreme, but seeing this and a lot of old football footage (ESPN plugging the NFL's "greatest game" replay like crazy) just makes me wonder exactly how much the game is going change until I am in my 70's or 80's (god willing I last that long.)
