Re: Give Chizik credit for standing up...
On the flip side, it was just two years ago that Chizik hired about 8 coaches. Now he's saying that he made mistakes on 4 of the 8 (don't forget the two assistants he ****-canned), including the 2 most important ones. Shouldn't the head coach get staff decisions right more than 50% of the time? And if he couldn't get it right 2 years ago, why is he confident he can get it right now?
Gene Smith, 1993-2000. 7 years, 6 NCAA's, 1 bowl game. Revenue sports postseason participation 50%. Good. Bruce Vandevelde, 2000-20005. 5 years, 4 bowl games, 2 NCAA's, 2 NIT's. Postseason participation 80%. Better. Jamie Pollard, 2005-. 4 years. 1 bowl game, 0 NCAA's, 0 NIT's. Postseason participation: 13%. The next big step. Everyone accepts the fact that Chizik's plan will work when we get better players, and we have to give him time to get his players in place. Why isn't that true for his coordinators?

Gene threw 4 men under the bus?
Heck AA was the best player on the team and his coach was fired!

Re: Give Chizik credit for standing up...
I'm pretty sure Petersen was canned b/c Chizik already had a target at OC who was a QB Coach as well. If this isn't the case I'd be pretty upset since Petersen IMO has done pretty darn well the last two seasons with our QBs.
Rainey just wasn't cutting it and we have two guys assigned to the secondary. Chizik has had Koonz with him since Auburn, and he looks to have a good future ahead of him.

If you were offered a choice of a demotion but keeping a job vs. being fired and unemployed, which would you choose? Most would choose to accept the demotion....but most would also start looking for other opportunities. There are a lot of college coaching changes in the works this year and a lot of new head coaches will be hiring new staffs over the next 6 weeks or so. I would be surprised if Bolt and McFarland didn't at least have their eyes and ears open for other potential jobs.

Bates has nothing to do with any of this.

If they were to look for jobs they probaly wouldnt get many better than their new jobs with ISU. Coaches move around a lot these two are not young bucks, maybe they think it is easier to stay put at a lesser job than move again.

Two years ago, Chizik was taking forever to hire the QB coach; probably having no luck in luring someone here. Then Petersen and the rest of Mason's staff got canned at Minnesota, and Chizik quickly hired him, rounding out the staff.

I am starting to question Gene's judgement how could you not?

Chiz fired 2 coaches and demoted them this year, he could fire them next year. At a minimum I don't expect they feel any loyalty to him and neither one has any ties to ISU that would keep them here. If they could be position coaches somewhere with a warmer climate that is closer to their extended families, I wouldn't blame them for leaving.

Something positive out of you during this thread would be nice.

Re: Give Chizik credit for standing up...
I am a big conspiracy theory guy. Maybe It was the plan all along; Phase I Bolt and Mcfarland are coordinators and put the best staff you can together. When the time is right the people(person) you want are(is) available fire the 2 weakest recruiters on your staff, open up the Coordinator jobs, throw some money around to get some bigger names here. BOOM! Phase II complete(I AM ONLY HALF KIDDING). If men in black SUV's start following me around I'll know I was right(I am fully kidding about that part).
