Re: I am going to get torn apart for this
I guess I'm a bit confused at all the anger. When Chizik was hired, it was thought that he was here for the long haul unless one of a few elite schools came calling, Auburn being one of the front runners for schools he would leave for. Everybody seemed happy at the idea of our coach leaving because it meant that we would have had some success. But now we're angry because our coach is being considered for presumably his dream job even with only five wins in two years?
I can't say that I blame Chizik one bit for interviewing with a school like Auburn. He'd be dumb to stick around at ISU this day and age of fans and ADs wanting instant success if he could get a job like Auburn after having only 5 wins as a head coach.
A lot of people are following the M&M thought process and not seeing how this can be "spun" into a positive and how this is a PR nightmare. Maybe I'm incredibly naive, but I don't see how this can't be viewed as a positive.
1.)Chizik likely won't get the job. If he does, what does that tell you about Jamie Pollard. Does anybody have a doubt that he will be able to bring in a quality coach after he brought in a coach that could get hired at AUBURN after 5 WINS in TWO YEARS?
2.)We have a coach that seems to be strongly considered for one of the top jobs in the country. You don't think that will resonate well when he's recruiting?
People keep saying, "He obviously wants out. He's a quitter." Who doesn't want out of nearly anywhere when "out" is Auburn? Recruits would understand that, and I think it would only help in recruiting to have a coach that is wanted by Auburn.

I'll go one more with you. I am willing to wager that Pollard had more to do with the demotion of the OC and DC coaches positions, than meets the eye, and someone took exception to that. I think that Chiz has had feelers out since THE RUMOR (that we all remember being reported), that he wished he had stayed in Texas. Yes, I know I'm just speculating, and yes, I am disappointed today.

Recruits would understand that, and I think it would only help in recruiting to have a coach that is wanted by Auburn. This will not help in recruiting. Recruits are not going to be impressed by the fact that if they come in and are part of a winning program for a year or two, their coaching staff (including their coordinator & position coach that they spend the most time with) are going to leave. Recruits want stability. What if we recruit a fullback or tight end or pocket passing QB to play in a balanced pro-style offense, after two years the coaching staff leaves, and they get a new coach who wants to run the spread and has no use for them?
If Chizik doesn't get the job this will be all but forgotten in a week or two, but it is in no way a positive on the recruiting trail. Especially this year when we're in the middle of prime recruiting time, we're already short 2 coaches who could be out recruiting, and the head coach is interviewing in Alabama instead of doing some recruiting himself.

That is why he may duck out of Dodge. Will he take Bolt and mcFarland with him to Auburn?

Who says he was in Alabama? Maybe he was in Texas, or Florida, or somewhere else, and right after the interview he made a stop at a recruit's house?
Why are people assuming they KNOW what is going on? Why does wanting the Auburn job mean he doesn't enjoy being at Iowa State? Why are people so absolute in their opinion, which they base off minimal information?

I like jelly better than jam or preserves. Same stuff really, but jelly just spreads better on my toast and doesn't tend to tear it up as much. It's more of a consistency issue for me.

The good news is if he doesn't get the job, one of his "dream" jobs is filled for a few more years. -
