Duke was in the NCAA title game in 1978, and reached in the Elite Eight in 1980, Bill Foster's final year. Coach K came the next year.
I'd say Duke was pretty high profile prior to Coach K. Not like now, but it would be an easy choice over ISU...
and at the time, one of Coach K's good friends and college teammates was living in Ames because his wife was teaching at ISU. (my HS coach in Florida).
I heard the story long before I ever considered going to ISU.

I've heard exactly the opposite. And I'm pretty sure there was an Aurburn fan who came on here quite some time ago and said how much they all liked and respected Chizik. I think throwing his name out would generate a buzz down there.
Auburn fans loved Chizik when he was there. Many were hoping he would be their next head coach a few years back once Tuberville retired.
Wow, I hadn't heard this one before. You mean we could have had a "Coach K Court?"
Where's that "kick in the nuts" pic when you need it
I seriously doubt there would have even been a Coach K if he had come here as in he wouldn't have had enough success to achieve the moniker. It is a difficult job here and 95% of the coaches that come aren't leaving in as high a regard as when they arrived.
