As it stands, Jeremy's parallel is just fine. Your comment about Auburn being the ones to ask for the interview actually hurts your argument - it shows that Chizik wasn't big enough to ask himself.

This isn't like most coaches moving on, because when most coaches move on they leave the program in better shape than they found it. In this case Gene inherited a '84 Celebrity and left us a '78 Pinto.

I support Iowa State. I am an Iowa State supporter and fan. It make no difference who the coach is. Their are to many fair weather fans. Go clones!

Re: Gene Chizik - All Bridges Lead Out of Ames
Good riddance to Gene. I don't think he'll be successful there either unless he somehow manages to find assistants who are top-notch.
My question now is--Does the man have a personality? I never saw any glimpses of one in the last 2 years. He did have us all fooled with that honor, loyalty, & integrity act though.

Highly touted coach comes in making big promises, then alienates fanbase.
I guess I should clarify though, I meant it would be Steve Alford all over again if Chiz stays, not if he leaves.

We will agree to disagree on that one.
Edit; as I think about it actually, you do have a point. There is some good young talent on the team. If they stick around, the program might actually look attractive to a good young coach. Especially an offensive minded one.

I do hope that people don't stop support the program because of this....
It's hard, it's a set back and it destabilizes everything. But everyone taking their ball and going home will only make it that much harder to move forward
Oh we will fight, fight, fight for Iowa State, and may her colors ever fly!!! In Accordance with Prophecy -

All that I'm saying is that I'll wait until it is final. And to me at least, the only source that's really relevant right now is Chizik himself--which I don't have a tap into.
I've been in situations before where rumor and innuendo, speculation and guesswork were all that mattered, not what I had actually thought or done. I'll choose to give someone else the benefit of the doubt.

Why? By contract, they have to be the ones to ask.
