Re: Is there a Press Conference Today?
"We've got to deliver"
This is why I support JP. He gets it. I haven't heard anything like that out of an ISU AD, with the exception of Gene Smith, in 30 years.

Re: Is there a Press Conference Today?
All of the following are my summarized key points from the press conference in case anyone can't listen in.
Opening statements: Pollard apologizes for letting them know so late. Also says that after today he will answer no more questions until a coach is hired.
Key input from Pollard:
Talked quite a bit about the excitement Chizik caused and how it helped the athletics department.
Now talking about the young players and how it will help bring in a new coach having such good young talent.
Says he has been discussing the situation with young players via phone since the news broke. Gives no specifics.
Message of thanks to all of the fans who contacted him to give support. For those fans who contacted him wanting him gone, he says he understands the frustration and will do everything he can do to get it right this time.
Once again it will be a secretive search. He will not answer questions.
Questions from reporters:
2 year contract extension to Chizik: Offered the week before the last game. JP did it because he sees the talent in the locker room and knows the program is headed in the right direction. He also felt that the excitement created among the fans and the behind the scenes happenings.
No players have said they want to transfer as of yet.
Pollard had no hand in the coaching changes.
Pollard quote to Chizik about going to Auburn: "You can go do that, you can go and never talk to me again or think about ISU again, but I didn't think you would do that."
Voicmail from Gene to Pollard Friday morning said he would not be taking the job. Later Friday night told JP he was offered the job and was going down to speak with AU officials. Accepted the AU job Saturday night.
JP says he doesn't feel this is a stepping stone job. Has been offered 3 jobs the last 3 years and has turned them down.
Asked if he would look for a coach with Midwest ties: "I'm not going to answer that. We need a coach that can win at ISU."
Several players have stated they are 100% behind ISU.
Talked about ISU being a good place to be and that it wasn't neccesarily a hard place to coach compared to others.
28 million budget 2 years ago is now 42 million!!
Good point from Pollard talking about how people will be so excited when the coach is hired and as soon as he calls a play those same people will be saying that he can't call plays.
He feels like the football program is way ahead of where it was 2 years ago. He feels like we are ready to win now and not rebuild.
Talked about D Mac with some nice respect. Said he felt much worse about what happened with Dan than anything that has happened this week. He felt like he had to get the fanbase excited again.
All of the assistant coaches are still working with the team.
Will not soften up the schedule to get wins in future years.
Reporter just called JP "Gene" and JP proceeded to not answer his question. He didn't answer because it was a question about the coordinator search.
Thought on low numbers of minority coaches in college football: It's a concern for our industry but you have to hire the best possible coach irregardless of that situation.
A coach with Midwest ties would be a benefit but will not have anything to do with the hire. Quote: "In the end, our fans just want somebody to win."
Asked about selling points of ISU: We have a huge asset in a team that saw lots of playing time young. Great citizens and good students. Fanbase is awesome. Players appear to be greatful for the fanbase support last year. Quote: "This place will explode when we win in football. Our fans have waited and waited and waited..."

I have always had tons of respect for Pollard and have backed him 100%..one thing that sticks in my mind was when he came over and personally thanked us (cyclone alley) for making the trip to carver this year for womens basketball and had a normal conversation with us..
