Re: Your Coaching Shortlist
arganbright, how big of a contract did Sumlin sign? The more I read about him the better he looks.
Midwest guy - grew up in Indiana, played at Purdue
Good list of coaches to learn under - Stoops, Tiller, Mason and I believe Slocum(Not sure if he was still at A&M when Kevin was there.
His offensive coordinator is from Mt Pleasant, IA and came from Texas Tech.
Defensive Coordinator - Scladany. I wouldn't mind having him back.
I really think Sumlin would blow-up like Gill if he has a good season next year. Maybe we can snag him before he becomes a hot commodity.
I'm not a Cowboys fan but his defensive line coach is a name some of you might remember. Jim Jeffcoat.
Drawback - Only 1 year as a head coach.

Re: Your Coaching Shortlist
In no particular order: Brian Kelly, Gary Patterson, Glen Mason, Mike Price, Tommy Tuberville, Skip Holtz, Gary Barnett, John Cooper.
I know that we all wanted the next big thing with Turner Gill, but maybe what we need is an older guy who can get the program on stable footing and serve as the Johnny Orr for the FB program. Mason, Price, Tuberville, Barnett, or Cooper could do that for us. Yes, some of them have some baggage, but they know how to build a FB program.

Re: Your Coaching Shortlist
Patterson(I can dream), Graham(there's your gimmick offense), Bailiff(taking Rice to a bowl is impressive in itself)...
All 3 of these guys would help with the Texas recruits...

Coach Cooper is 71, I think. Last I had heard, though, he was still a little miffed at getting passed over (for Donnie Duncan) when Earl Bruce went to tOSU. Would have been a great hire, in retrospect...

Re: Your Coaching Shortlist
I have heard some not so good things about Graham at Tulsa, plus he took over for Kragthorpe so did he really build that program. With Malzahn (sp?) ,you got to think about his situation at Arkansas with Houston Nutt.

Rush Propst has similar qualities as Chizik.

Re: Your Coaching Shortlist
Jerry Pezetti. He could bring the long sought after kicking game we have been missing.

Being in NW Ark, I was able to follow the Malzahn situation pretty first hand, and he got the shaft from the Nutt clan. The fan base here actually would have preferred Malzahn over Petrino...I don't think he's ready for the HC position, mainly because of the lack of experiance at this level and his recruiting contacts and connections aren't good yet, but he'd make a heck of a OC if Graham were to come this way.

Re: Your Coaching Shortlist
How about Jim Leavett from USF do we have a shot at him.

Re: Your Coaching Shortlist
I guess I don't see any realistic "big splash" names out there
