Re: Robert McFarland, possible candidate?
Speaking of Barney, he apopears to be accepted okay back in Lincoln. A winning record really helps. He still uses BarneySpeak.
Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style. -
Re: Robert McFarland, possible candidate?
Do I think McFarland should be promoted to head coach - NO. But, I think the new head coach (whoever it ends up being) really needs to consider keeping McFarland on the staff. From what I've heard from people close to the team, many of the offensive players will consider staying if McFarland is brought back.

Re: Robert McFarland, possible candidate?
I appreciate what he's done since Gene left. He's about option 840, I would think, but I certainly wouldn't fight keeping him on as O-Line coach.

I would be OK if the new coach wanted to consider McFarland for OC. I think were were a couple of solid O Linemen short of being a pretty good offense. IMHO your ofensive schemes get you to the red zone (we were good at that) and your O-Line get you to the end zone (we were not good at that).

In any case, if he doesn't get included, I don't want to lose him, I think he is a great positive for the team. The offense got better as the season went, and I am guessing he was involved with some of the great players that have been recruited in the last two years. He could be our version of Mangino, in more ways than one. I thought this was a joke but then again Auburn hired our 5-19 coach so I guess in this world even someone who is fired for not being a good enough offensive coordinator might still get promoted to head coach. Isn't this the Dilbert approach to advancing on the job.

Seriously, the ISU offense was not bad and got better as the season went (and as opposing defenses got worse except Colo.) For the season the team averaged 387 yds. per game, probably best since 2001 or 2002 and 25.3 pts. per game. Believe it or not the team probably had the best rushing offense average per game since 01' or 02' as well at 140 yds. per game. This is also the best scoring offense since 2005-that year they averaged 31-32 pts per game, but several in 2005 were defensive scores and the team averaged 350 yds per game. I am not really interested in the team learning a new offense again in 2009 or we will back to square one.
Keep McFarland around somehow. I don't think his demotion was warranted for the season, for some games it was-Iowa (the circus), UNLV-slow start, Nebraska was the worst, but this also came after the Bates ordeal.

Is this thread meant to be a f'k'n joke?

I am surprised by his demotion. But since Gene is gone, something else was going on.
I am impressed with the offense line coaching he has done compared to Barney, I guess that wasn't too hard to do. How about Marty Fine for HC?

Re: Robert McFarland, possible candidate?
Rumor has it (from another thread) is McFarland is following Chizik to Auburn.
Chuck Lidell: I paint my toenails with pink and black polish. Problem is, I get more paint on my toes and on the carpet than on my nails. Any advice? Maria Sharapova: Don't you beat up other guys for a living? I don't know how to answer this. -
Re: Robert McFarland, possible candidate?
Let's put it this way, there's a one in a million chance.....so what you're saying is I have a chance!
All those coaches are likely miserable, feel more betrayed than the players and know the fire drill.
Way to completely humilate and take advantage of coaching "buddies" - demote them and get them to agree to stay on one week before bolting (without a Bolt to be sure). Then fire all the coaches who actually won the 13-0 record by GOOD COACHING (to make sure there's no competition on the coaching staff or in officespeak "they weren't team players"). Then make sure to tell everyone what "a good man" Chizslick is.....now go throw up unless you enjoy eating turd sandwiches. And no, DO NOT "throw up a little bit in my mouth" unless you're suffering from Bulimia and actually enjoy the tase of vomit mixed with turd.
The very first question someone should be answering right now (Jeremy, cough, cough) while we play whack a coach is which ones on the list DO NOT have Jimmy Sexton as an agent on the list....and pray for one of those. Or start to develop a fondness for turd a la mode and more "good man" speeches.
The only exception to this rule would some version of the entire Tuberville AU coaching staff....the turds will taste better with a side dish of revenge. Probably won't be worth it, but will "feel good" in a perverse way like "throwing up a little in your mouth" must.
