I wonder if he ever apologized to McFarland and Bolt his friends. He also need to apologize to his staff and players. He ****** a lot of people off by the sounds of it besides just the fans.
The gap in our economy is between what we have and what we think we ought to have--and that is a moral problem, not an economic one. - Paul Heyne
I could see many years from now, a few scenarios where he would apologize to us (perhaps not formally, but in his heart at least). Most easily if both him and ISU become highly successful--something like the pain of GC leaving causes the perfect storm of events where we are national champions 5 years from now, and GC is national champion the following year after going through his own turmoil (say the NAACP gets him fired from Auburn halfway through next season).
And that same scenario would lend itself to ISU fans forgiving him.
For the record, I personally don't feel like there's anything to forgive him for. I don't know him. I don't know what really happened. I refuse to participate in a trial-by-speculation. He has not directly hurt, offended, or wronged me. He seems to have done good things for our program while he was here. Only time will tell if his leaving is good, bad, or neutral for ISU. I'm not entitled to him and he has never personally owed me anything.
May my postings be polite and not misunderstood. (And hopefully funny on occasion.)
I can safely assume this will never happen, but even if he did, I wouldn't forgive him anyways after all the lies and what he did to the guys on the team.
Him saying war eagle right when he got of the jet from Ames felt like your wife leaving you and screwing the very next guy she saw on the street.
Can't say I know how that feels from experience...but if it feels anything like what Chizdick did when he got off the plane and said war eagle I would be pretty upset!
good question, but i have hardly a doubt in my mind that he'll apologize. if he apologizes now, hes showing a lot of uncertainty about his move. his situation at auburn is already comparable to walking on thin ice when it comes to trust.
i think we can forgive him if we think of it as a good move. obviously the guy didn't have his whole heart and soul into our football program. i think someday it will pay off that he left when he did.
1. He won't apologize any time soon and likely at all.
2. I don't think ISU fans will forgive (or forget) him until we have a new coach that brings success to ISU Football.
I just watched "the Assassination of Jesse James" and the coward robert ford kept reminding me of chizik.. anyone else seen this? He wasn't smart enough to realize everyone would hate him.. he said what he expected was applause.. haha.. I think gene's version of reality was similar..
Id say that the chances of Gene apologizing is about the same as us having a winning record next year... Id love to see it happen but Im not counting on it... that being said I think Benjay said it pretty well with his comment that apologizing would be an admission of wrongdoing. If anything Gene would simply comment on how he wouldnt change a thing about his career and he is happy about the time he spent at Iowa State and how he is fortunate to have an opportunity at his dream job at Auburn as head coach.... Actually I want to think thats basically what he DID say... cant confirm for sure though.
I think it will be interesting to see the crowd reaction at Jack Trice next year when Auburn scores are posted on the scoreboard. Do they announce scores over the P.A. any more?? They used to but I can't remember hearing it this past season.
Him saying war eagle right when he got of the jet from Ames felt like your wife leaving you and screwing the very next guy she met in a men's room of the HHH Metrodome.
This is my first forray into the whole "there, I fixed it for you" trend.
What did Iowa State ever do to him to become such a low life? I wonder what all happened between Friday 1 PM and 5 PM. I also wonder what exactly he said to the kids before he took off from Ames.
It probably went something like this:
"Hey men... I am the new coach at Auburn. I am leaving because Auburn is my dream job and because it will be a much easier job for me because as you know fellas... I can't coach for ****. I want all of you to keep you commitments to Iowa State because honesty and integrity is the most important thing. There I go again... That was a lie. To those of you I recruited call me and we can talk about what positions I need filled at Auburn. Was that an NCAA violation? Ok. gentleman... Pollard looks like he wants to punch me in the face so I am ******* out of here. Later losers. I WILL ALWAYS BE A CYCLONE!! (yelled as running out the door)
