If you have 5 dollars and Chuck Norris has 5 dollars, Chuck Norris has more money than you.
Honestly I think we might need to bring Chuck in as HC. Just think about all the kids that would want to play for him. Other teams wouldn't even show up. And think of the season ticket sales.......
Texas head strength coach Jeff Madden and ISU strength coach Ken Sheppard. Neither ever works out. Although not nessary to be a strength coach......it makes the athletes respect you more. Plus, what type of people never work out..........Lazy people? Both have their assistants do all the work and give them none of the credit.
I just love how last year around this time the talk was about how much Mac's S&C coach sucked because he wasn't putting any size on our athletes, and Shep was so great because he was putting size on them. Now that Chizik is gone and Shep may be on his way out, size is overrated and we should be focused on other things?
Does someone want to make up our mind on what exactly our S&C program SHOULD be focused on? Because every other year it seems like the group starts ******** that the S&C program is taking the wrong focus - and then it changes and a couple of years later what they changed to is also the wrong focus...
It's no different than being an offensive coordinator. There are many different philosophies you can use. Many different components (mobility, flexibility, speed, strength, endurance, agility, etc.). A coach like McGettigan worked his butt off and made better athletes. He motivated, is well respected. Sheppard can be found on the cell phone during most workouts......or on the computer. True stories.....sad, but true. Like scclone said, Madden at Texas sits at his desk and coaches through a intercom. Sheppard worked under him for over 10 years. He obviously has the same work ethic.
I totally agree!! Why is it that every new S&C coach brought in is supposedly taking on such a GREAT CHALLENGE? The ISU players are not all slow little weaklings! Getty was my S&C coach back in the 90's and even then we had players benching over 500 lbs and squating over 800 lbs! IMO - Getty was the man and Sheppard did not take control of a weak team!
Since Chizik changed S&C coaches, the program hasn't been the same. I would say that if the 'Clones were 10-2 or 2-10. Think about it, every year the media interviews the new strength coach of a new school and writes about the new "discipline" instilled and the great progress. It's all political propaganda. Hype machine.
