Any hire is a good hire given the mess we're in..
-
I've given up and I don't really follow Iowa State Football any more.

Re: Will you support our new coach if its Mike Stoops?
If you don't support a coach you don't enjoy, then you are a fair-weather fan.
But, if you talk of pulling your support for the entire ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT, than you aren't even a fan.

Re: Will you support our new coach if its Mike Stoops?
Honestly, I would be more excited by a virtual unknown than Stoops.
It would seem you can have a pretty good idea of what you're going to get from Stoops. Every 5 years or so, when the schedule allows, you might make a bowl...if you're in a horrible conference like the PAC 10.
If you're in the Big 12, it'll be even longer. Where would you rate him among current Big 12 Coaches?
I'd rank him tied with Mike Sherman for dead last.

Mike Stoops is much better than the last sailsman. :) We can recruit West Coast players...
Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style. -

I thought we were done with Hayden Fry rejects after DMC was fired.

Also, Stoops could be the Bryan Kelly of 2008.

Well if they hire Stoops, my wife and kids will like it because my Saturday afternoons and evenings will be free. And in 5 years we can go through this whole process again with a new A.D.!

What's being said about Stoops right now is what the Auburn fans are saying about Chizik.
Except we aren't stuck...yet.

Please turn in your Cyclone Fan Card. Who made you God? If he doesn't want to donate cause this stOOpid *** is hired then let him. Doesn't make him less of a Cyclone then you. Going along with everything that Pollard does conversely doesn't make you a great Cyclone fan either. When Pollard screws the pooch like he will do by hiring Stoops then you call it for what it is.... a total freaking disaster/career suicide for Pollard/the death of Iowa State football. End of story

I mean why are we already getting out the pitchforks and ridiculing someone that may be our head coach without any chance. From what i'm seeing were beginning to look like Auburn fans and how they've treated Chizik. If Auburn hires Chizik from Texas as the D-Coordinator they're praised as pluking the brightest young assistant coach in football. If they hire him from ISU they're completely incompetent.
Trust me i hate the way Chizik left ISU - but, if the best available hire out there is Stoops at this juncture, i say hire him. The job he's done at Arizona if anyone is familiar with football is very commendable to say the least. Would anyone on this board take a 7 point loss to Oklahoma or Texas or Texas Tech....i think we would. He has that team in a position to compete against the best teams in the nation (he may lose some he should win - but so does Kirk Ferentz WMU).....
From my position right now - ISU is not the job it was two years ago, we were actually in a better position record wise, but from facilities etc etc were better and will continue to grow if success is achieved. I just cannot sit here and say any one person is a better hire then another, trust me, JP knows his job is on the line, do you think he's hiring someone that he does not feel will get the job done this time???? NO WAY......
After reading that Fulmers agent is the same agent as Chizik's, i don't think theres any way he's coming to ISU that would be pulling a rabbit out of the hat.
To me, its down to Hill or Stoops. The biggest question to me as far as if we will be successful or not is who the assistants will be, that will determine our overall success. Those assistant's will coach more then the head coach does and from a standpoint of recruiting, assistants are the ones doing all the work, the head coach just either makes the call or receives the final call - its a done deal at that point.

Re: Will you support our new coach if its Mike Stoops?
Just an thought. There has been small rumblings of people wanting Pollard fired (he referred to in his press conference). He has been trying to get all the cyclone fans on the bandwagon since his hire. Do you think he is going to risk all of it on a guy like Stoops. Obviously, from the discussion in this thread and others it will be a very controversial hire that could have "fans" falling off the wagon. All I'm going to say is it would take a lot of "Manhood" to risk it all with this hire.
BTW I am born and raised a Cyclone and will always be a Cyclone.

Re: Will you support our new coach if its Mike Stoops?
Gotta admit I usually find myself upbeat about most things Cyclones and what Pollard has done in his time here, but I'd be remissed if I felt good about a Mike Stoops regime in Ames. I won't lament it, but I'd be luke-warm at best.
Cyclone
Iowa State became the Cyclones after they leveled Northwestern in 1895. As the Chicago Tribune (9/29/1895) noted:

It Comes from Iowa and Devastates Evanston Town' -

I don't get this consensus that he's some kind of horrible human being, where is that coming from?
