HELL YES! I said it on another post and I will say it again......MIKE STOOPS IS NOT A WEEK 1 HIRE! Forget the UofI ties, you don't hire a below .500 coach in the first week. THIS HAS TO BE A SMOKE SCREEN.....wait for the real coach to stand up tomorrow or Saturday!

What if this IS the best coach Iowa State can get? I'd will take Stoops in a heartbeat, rather than an O/D cord...And if you answer Fulmer, how do you factually know that he is interested in coaching here? Other than a central Iowa radio station?

In the Pac 10, as long as you beat USC and are a decent team, you have a good chance of going to the Rose Bowl, which is a BCS bowl.

Its not a fair comparison - Chizik in year 5 may have had something. Stoops in his last three years is 6-6, 5-7, 7-5 thats .500 ball for a team that when he took it over had won 3 games the previous 2 years. I think he's done a decent job and he's got a great recruiting class coming in. He's a great recruiter and its obvious that he's at least a decent coach because you don't upset the number of teams he's upset the past 5 years without some coaching ability. He's knocked off 5 ranked teams in the last 5 years - regardless of conference thats good coaching.

Can anyone here remember the last time ISU knocked off a top 25 team????

Since 2002 we've beaten Iowa twice while ranked and Colorado once. There have been some mediocre Big 12 ranked teams in there we couldnt beat so i'm not going to underestimate what he's done at Arizona.

Again, the most important thing is Assistants. That is where my greater concern lies.

Boy I wish there was another radio station that can follow this story. KXNO has the monopoly in the state and Marty and Miller think they have the "inside scoop". Only two people know whats going on. JP and the guy that he hires.
