Re: Will Chizik now go after our Assistants?

He'll use them like he used us. If any of the assistants have good connections to recruiting, he'll take 'em.

I don't think our assistants are strong enough to get hired at Auburn, I questioned if they were strong enough for us with the salaries we paid them. After the problems the Auburn fanbase had with Chiz getting hired they would go balistic if he hired the same staff that went 5-19 with him and didn't have the previous resumes chiz did.

Now that McFarland went out and got a recruit given the circumstances I feel like I've given the assistants a bad rap. They may not be as amazing as I hoped for initially, but at least as far as McFarland goes it looks like he may actually have the integrity I thought Chiz had. They seem like they actually care about the Cyclone family and the players we have on our team, from that one action McFarland has gained a whole lot of my respect, and I know our guys like Bolt. I'd hope our next coach at least gives a look at keeping them on in some roll even if not a major one.
Chances are most of the actual "recruiting" went down well before Chizik left, but of course he's going to keep working until he knows where he's going to be next year.

I don't know about the chaplain, but if Shepp left or is released I wouldn't lose any sleep over it.

I doubt it is going to matter at the end of the day. It is likely the new coach will have a pretty full staff ready to follow.

I would assume he might keep 1 or 2 assistants, but I'm more concerned about the recruits & potential recruits he was trying to bring into ISU.

Since I got grief over McFarland for HC, I will say I would like to see him stay as OL coach, he seems to be doing okay there, could do really good if that is his only focus.

What do you mean? I'd always heard nothing but good about him. I don't know what makes a good S&C coach (if you saw my arms that much would be obvious) but I thought he came well recommended.

He came because Chizik brought him from Texas. He wasn't recommended...it was a good 'ole boy hire. Chizik is keeping Yoxall (Auburn's S&C), who is very good, but that should tell you something.

Some things that make a good strength coach:
1-Don't chill out in your office on your computer all day.
2-Don't walk around the weight room talking on your cell phone.
3-At least look like a strength coach...guy has like 40% bodyfat. How can you teach discipline when you have none? Practice what you preach.

Re: Will Chizik now go after our Assistants?

Is he the strength coach for football only or for the entire athletic department?

Edit: never mind, got my answer in the media guide.

Most S&C coaches I have seen are pretty big dudes...and I don't mean cut...

Most I have met also spend alot of time in their office, on their computer...

I'm guessing you have some sort of personal beef with him...

Agree. Sheppard looks like he really, really likes to eat. Not a good image for recruits, just like McFarland.

How many BCS football strength coaches have you seriously met?I don't have a "beef" with him per se, but it's hard for me to respect a guy that has a "do as I say, not as I do" attitude. Maybe i'm just partial to our last guy, but if I am it's because he represented what a S&C coach should be for an athlete.

Maybe, I'm in the dark, but I was under the impression that our numbers have improved or am I wrong? Thanks...
