most likely has nothing to do with 'gotcha!' but rather keeping the process secret from the coach current employee fan base...esp before a bowl game.

His last game of gotcha worked out great. The guy he got just didn't turn out to be so great.

Interesting he gives up today, I wonder if he was told not to talk anymore because we have someone.

Re: Marty: "I never want to experience this again"
Right, it's not really about the gotcha - as much as keeping his key targets under wraps. Can't have info getting leaked and either the guy bailing or fans of that school going nuts - prompting an extension.
And, Pollard is smart, he loves ISU being talked about day in and day out.
Hawk fans gotta be upset that this search has totally upstaged their bowl game. Really...who's talking about that bowl game? Not even the 2pm slot on KXNO is paying a ton of attention for it. Anything sports in Iowa is #1 ISU FB, everything else is a distant 2nd.

I think most of us figured Stoops wasn't the guy.

Re: Marty: "I never want to experience this again"
Marty could very well be getting played by his source. But ouside of Patterson (and Gill) I would still like to see Stoops as our next head coach. Calhoun would be another good one, but the Stoops name gives us a lot of cred when recruiting the Big 12 area, Iowa, and even Ohio as I believe his family is from Youngstown. I'm sure he's also well connected in Arizona and California, so he's got most of the football hotbeds covered. He's competed and is having success this year as a BCS head coach. Everybody went ga ga over Chiz because he was d-coordinator at national champion Texas, but Stoops was d-coordinator at national champion Oklahoma and has some BCS head coaching experience to boot. Now I hope I'm knocked off my chair and Patterson is named our new head coach, but after him Stoops makes the most sense imo.

They're very interested.

I would almost bet that Jamie works with a couple big donors to feed the media crap. I'm sure he knows that Marty will blab it around and send them in the wrong direction. Good job motor mouth!

There really isn't a whole lot to talk about regarding the bowl game. I'm one Iowa fan who is paying very close attention to the goings-on in Ames, and I'm probably not the only one.

I too know the info he got was from a great source. I sent a note to Jon earlier and he mentioned it on his show - I really think Pollard is wagging the dog here. Giving out poor info to keep people away from the real source.
Why?
Because that coach is in a big bowl game and does not want to have his team distracted. Also, that coach already left one offer on the table because it was prematurely leaked. I don't know if I would call the Poinsetta Bowl a big bowl.

Re: Marty: "I never want to experience this again"
For a bit, I even wondered if Marty was in on all this. The only thing bigger to him than breaking the story, would have been helping Pollard with the smoke screen.
But then, I was reminded - no...that simply could not be possible. ;)

One Hawk fan is posting all over everywhere false rumors that we've hired Patterson. Although that'd be great, he's just trying to get everyone riled up.
