Re: KTAR in AZ report contract terms with Stoops
If Stoops is hired and big IF because right now who the hell knows, it would not be the end of the world. Lets be realistic Fulmer?? I would love it, but doubt it. The realistic choice for coaches to coach here are Stoops, Calhoun, Barnett, T. Bowden, and Patterson. Anything possibly better would be a huge surprise.

Re: KTAR in AZ report contract terms with Stoops
Can somebody tell me how Fulmer being able to recruit to Tennessee has anything to do with recruiting to ISU? Why would kids from the deep south and SEC country come to ISU unless there's some connection. Does he have any connections to the Big 12, Iowa or the Midwest? What motivation does he have to build a program at ISU when he's already done well at Tennessee and is on the way down? If he's interested in the job I suspect it's to sack away some easy millions from us before he retires and moves back home.

Re: KTAR in AZ report contract terms with Stoops
So we have been here the last week, and all we keep hearing is we need a head coach, not a oc or dc and there is now talk of hiring a hc (stoops) and we are throwing a fit, Whomever it is I will support the Cyclones!

"He started out with a couple of 3-8 years but has made progress and now they're in a decent bowl game. How isn't that a turnaround?"
I believe the "turnaround" has more to do with Sonny, than Bob's brother.
"The guy was a coordinator on a national championship Oklahoma team"
More like 3rd in command, behind Bobby and BV. Also with much better players, see GC.
"decent bowl game with BYU (I know it's his 5th year)"
And was one loss away from being fired. Plus, "insiders" believe improvement was because of Sonny.
"Stoops name is huge in the Big 12 region, Iowa, and probably in Ohio. "
That will last maybe a year, two years tops (if it even is as big as you all like to think). Winning is everything.
Stoops brings neither proven winning with less or the excitement of a young up and comer. Maybe we can't get a coach with these qualities without a blemish, but I would rather take a flier on one with some baggage (like CU's old coach), as after a quick turnaround no one will care (look over to the east this year)

Re: KTAR in AZ report contract terms with Stoops
I already posted this in another thread, but I'll repeat it here. I heard Mark Asher's comments (the one who "broke" the story.). He said that JP has asked Livengood's permission to speak with Stoops after his bowl game, so I don't believe they've sat down and talked numbers. The numbers mentioned were 1.3 million a year. I don't know if this is Stoops' number or ISU's, but he never said it was a done deal. He also said that Stoops' preference is to stay at U of A, but he wants a raise and an extension. He may be using the ISU job to get this to happen. Also mentioned was that Stoops may bring Chuck Long in to be his OC.

He wins the game he should and loses the games he should. He has yet to make a splash.
Look at this years wins
Idaho
Toledo
@UCLA (who stunk this year)
Washington (worst team in FBS football)
California (his one good win this season)
@ Washington St. (2nd worst team in FBS football)
Arizona St. (none bowl team and in state rival)
Remind you of something ISU would do to get 7 wins.

This is a big circle reference. It will not be Stoops (I hope)

I add these to my list of reasons as to why no Stoops. No way we should give a raise to him. Someone mentioned eailler they thought Fullmer would just use ISU for few million. Well it looks like Stoops feels the same way about ISU. Would rather be at UofA, but if he doesn't have any options at AZ, will come to ISU and collect some more coin. Oh yeah, and I am look warm to Long as OC.

Re: KTAR in AZ report contract terms with Stoops
I'd definately be willing to give the guy a chance...Arizona is in much better shape now then when they inherited Stoops...and of course you're gonna have an overall losing record when you inherit a bad team, and don't have much time at the school. Two 3-8 seasons will destroy an overall record...even Turner Gill (who I wanted) has a losing record overall...in VERY FEW cases are there "quick fixes" in football, and Arizona has made significant progress under Stoops-and is now going to their first bowl game (mediocre or not...I'd sure like to be in a bowl game instead of 2-10) in a decade with this guy at the helm.

I said this in the other thread too: The writing in the article in the original post is terrible--words left out, improper grammar, and sources not cited. I don't believe this one.

Re: KTAR in AZ report contract terms with Stoops
Stoops knows and likes the state of Iowa and would feel more comfortable here than in Ariziona. He knows Iowa people and what we are all about. He would stay here for at least 5 years. He can recruit very well. Been to a bowl game. Has the last name "Stoops". His team is in every game they play. His 5 losses this year were only by a combined 28 points. Beat a top 25 team every year as coach. He's good enough to get us into a bowl game and compete for a north division title. I'll take him.
Droppin' 3's like my name is Scotty C.

Re: KTAR in AZ report contract terms with Stoops
As to those who don't want him because he's a former Hawk...what if Louisville would've said no to Pitino? What if Iowa Wrestling would've said no to Dan Gable? What if Bill Fennelly would've said no to Stacy Frese? Stoops would be coming here to be a Cyclone...and to win games as a Cyclone.
