I like the hire...
I hope he takes on the role of D-Coordinator too... Instead of trying to be the CEO type of HC.

Re: Boosters/L Johnson behind Rhoads
We'll certainly have a pipeline to Ankeny. I watched Paul play in high school and he is a good guy from a great family that's lived in Ankeny forever. Nobody will be pulling for him harder than I will, but I was surprised by the hire and do think given the fact that he's had no head coaching experience and mediocre success as an assistant makes him a longshot to succeed. I have to wonder if he's got many recruiting connections in Big 12 country, especially Texas. I'm not sure why JP gave him such a big contract given his resume and the fact he was likely out of a job (I hope we still have plenty left to pay top notch coordinators). But maybe we'll just luck out on this one and Paul will turn out to be a good head coach, he's a good guy that wants to be a Cyclone and deserves our full support.

Re: Boosters/L Johnson behind Rhoads
Good Job Jamie, solid hire!!! Yes Paul does not have head coaching experience blah blah, but does have success and other big schools wanting him. National recruiter which is what I was really really looking for, being from Iowa and WANTING to be here is huge. I am behind Jamie and Paul 100%. Say what you want negative nancy's, but this is the best fit and most realistic hire. I prefer Paul over most mentioned on here. Plus he is young!! Now lets go get some good coordinators!!!

At least when he looks a recruit and their mother in the eye and says he will be here for them, it will be true.

Re: Boosters/L Johnson behind Rhoads
I think it's really important that Coach Rhodes understand that their are more sports at ISU than just football. That is something Chizdick never realized. I'm guessing Coach Fennelly loves this hire.

Re: Boosters/L Johnson behind Rhoads
Pezetti has sent a fair number of kids to ISU also, Scott Cole, Jim Thompson, Ted Clapper, Chris Peterson and currently Hulbert to name a few. Hopefully we can get some kickers from here as Ankeny is losing an all-stater this year but a freshman coming up may be better than him. Good point about Albaugh. Denny has always been a huge supporter of Ankeny football and this hire certainly can't hurt the prospects for getting that south end zone filled in.

Re: Boosters/L Johnson behind Rhoads
huge sigh of relief that it wasn't Stoops.... VERY smart hire.... I haven't posted much at all on the coaching fiasco, but here is a glimmer of optimism for next year using an example of what happened here in CO this year... this season, Steve Fairchild, a relative unknown in college football, took over the CSU program that had completely bottomed out under now-retired Sonny Lubick, who went 3-9 in his last year. Fairchild got the Rams to 6-6 and a bowl berth in his first year in Ft Collins. I'm not comparing Fairchild to Rhoads, just want to point out that with the right staff and players who buy into a system, this thing can be turned around quicker than the "half decade" setback that M&M and others have been talking about.

Re: Boosters/L Johnson behind Rhoads
how much of the recruiting class can Rhoads maintain? I haven't been following the rumor mill much... obviously 100% would be great, but I'm sure there will be some backing away.
