An AD or any hiring manager for that fact would get fried for interviewing only one candidate.

How Do You Define First Choice

IMO the fact that JP was able to ID a group of candidates, arrange to interview, get the contract basics ironed out and have the guy meet ISU's president all in 1 week is moving pretty darn quick.

Re: Will we know who said no?
I'd just be interested in who we talked to. Supposedly Graham was talked to but Pollard moved on...but this is from the same guy who said that Stoops was coming.

I'm not saying I'm not behind him. I am and think he's an ok choice, but I'd like to know that we at least made a run at some of the other guys who have been discussed.
If we had a chance for some of these other guys, say Patterson, yet chose Paul instead, I'd have some questions.
If he was our fallback candidate, I think he's a decent one. If he was the guy that we felt was our #1 must-have guy, I think Jamie's list should've been burned.

Despite the internet rumors, there's no reason to think we had any chance at Patterson. He supposedly turned down Minnesota and $2 million per year, to stay at TCU. Minnesota has a bigger state population (i.e. better recruiting base) than we do, a new stadium coming, and that's more money than we could/would pay. And given TCU's location in the heart of Texas recruiting territory and position as a top program in a mid-major conference, it is arguably a better job than ISU's.
Gene Smith, 1993-2000. 7 years, 6 NCAA's, 1 bowl game. Revenue sports postseason participation 50%. Good. Bruce Vandevelde, 2000-20005. 5 years, 4 bowl games, 2 NCAA's, 2 NIT's. Postseason participation 80%. Better. Jamie Pollard, 2005-. 4 years. 1 bowl game, 0 NCAA's, 0 NIT's. Postseason participation: 13%. The next big step. My ignore list: splitidentity, tarheelhawk,superdorf, clones_jer. That is all. -

It's super quick turn around time and shows getting someone fast was a priority for Jamie. Every job is going to have multiple canidates. Saying one is your top choice before going into the process is unprofessional, foolish, and not fair to the people interviewing. I doubt Jamie had a first choice going into this.

True. Although, as I keep learning at work, they likely have their choice already made, but have to interview more than one person. -
Re: Will we know who said no?
Jamie said it himself:
“During our exhaustive interview process, he was the one candidate that clearly demonstrated both extensive experience and an extreme passion for and familiarity with our institution.
Rhoads wasn't the only interview, but he was the best candidate of the ones who were interviewed.

I think we could pay $2million to the right guy, but hear what you're saying.
