I will say the talent level on the team now compared to when Gene took over is night and day better. Rhoads has some good young talent to work with.
Aubie.. you are screwed really. expect to miss the bowl picture again. you will see a lot of delay of game penalties and other stupid mistakes. hes not the great defensive mind we all thought. even though ISU has inferior athletes, he should at least have been able to put up a decent defense, and he couldnt manage that.
4 wins for the tigers next year.
Thanks for Paul Rhoads! "WAR EAGLE"!
Enjoy your new head coach and thanks for taking him off our hands and sliding us the $750K.
The guy lost his last 10 games in a row this season. Losses is the past 2 years included UNLV, Northern Iowa (1AA), Toledo, and Kent State.
Looks like you got a great coach and for only $2 million to boot!
Dont ever trust the man he WILL lie to your face to better his position. At Auburn he only has to coach the talent. Usually Auburn can pick up some good coordinators to actually do the coaching. Chiz will just be the head DBag in charge good luck he will be gone in a second if FLorida opens up that being if Giz ever does anything wortha crap
If you couldn't tell already the ISU fans don't really have a lot of nice things to say about Chizik. When he came in we thought he was the man to take us to the mountain top. We realized that wasn't going to happen pretty quickly. We had faith that he was going to turn it around and instead of turning it around, he ran. Not only did he run but he ran to a higher tiered school with respect to football. The quality of recruits that he brought increased but we felt it was the coaches that caused us to lose. Thanks for stopping by. Come back often
One thing that I could not understand about Cheese*ick is that he was never able to make adjustments at half time. If you look at his losses the past 2 years, he was in many of the games at half, but got blown out the second half. He just plain got out coached. Talent will help, but you still have to adjust.
When you lose, he says the players need to play better. That was ten straight weeks for us.
No halftime adjustments other than to argue more with the refs after halftime.
He was pretty much a robot headcoach putting in his time.
He is also all about business: his. Few days before he took your job , he demoted his two best buddies as a distraction. He fired couple of coaches, and he went looking for a job when he was supposed to be lookin for coordinators and recruits. Guess his heart was not in it.
In fairness, most of us still had faith that Gene would turn the corner for us over the next two years. When he left, all we had was 2 awful seasons of football to reflect on and a football program in a state of total disaster. Obviously, we're bitter towards him.
From an objective standpoint, I would call Gene a wildcard at this point. He may turn out to be a good head coach now that he has some experience (at our expense). Then again, he surely doesn't have a record of winning at his back. He could very well flop.
GC is very good at recognizing talent and recruiting. I would give him an A- to B+ here.
Fan relations: D-. He treats it like he is a pro coach, and doesn't need to bother with the proles or fundraise at all.
Pre-Game preparation: B-. GC teams were usually ready for what they were going to face on gameday.
In-game adjustments: D. GC doesn't adapt well to what is happening on the field, and doesn't recognize the same things happening over and over.
Game flow management: D-. Plays do not get in on time, a lot of delay of game penalties, having the team stare at the sidelines with ten seconds on the playclock means you will not be ready on the snap and no chance for an audible. Dumbest thing I have seen.
Player development: D. I can't name one player that improved since GC arrived. Maybe Arnaud, the QB, but we didn't get to see him play much as a freshman.
Offense: B-. We could move the ball, we just couldn't score.
Defense: F. We couldn't stop anybody, and would consistently get burned by the same plays. The problems we had in week 3 were the same as in week 12. Not adjusting or using different schemes or personnel is inexcusable.
Special Teams: C. Real good kick returns and coverage, bad punt returns and coverage.
GC as a person: Arrogant, ignorant, dishonest and disloyal.
Overall, From what I saw, I would give GC a D as a coach, and that is what I would have given him even if he didn't leave.
Oh and he's been called the most unprepared head coach Iowa State has ever had. It's true. I don't know of ANYBODY who would disagree with that.
