Maybe the poll should not be yes/no but a scale of 1 to 10?
I'm sensing that alot of my fellow clones are so bitter about what Chizik did that Jon Miller would have gotten about the same response at a pc announcing him as head coach. I'm sorry. I just don't get it. I was luke warm in the morning to fairly happy by the pc about coach Rhoads. However, the press conference took me from that to a tad worried.
I love passion. Rhoads has passsion for ISU which is great, but that is about all I got out of him. As far as the rest of his presentation, I got more of a Criner/Walden feel than a Mac or even Chizik feel. You can tell he is VERY green, and I dont' want to say he lacks confidence but he certainly doesn't exude it. Maybe that's ok. Maybe we need someone that says I don't have all the answers right now, but I'm going to fight to find them. I just sat there thinking we're heading back to the '80s. Maybe it's because no one thought about coach Rhoads as an option. Maybe it's because I'm scared about a 2nd consecutive DC to Head coach with no experience. I can't place my finger on it except to say I sure hope my gut is wrong.
I know this post will get the insecure fans upset, but no way can I be the only one that was more excited about Rhoads before the presser yesterday.
Or - I'm going to find staff that complement my skills/experience to fill in the gaps.
Anyway, a "yes"/"no" sort of poll isn't ideal for me.
"Yes" - I'm happy with the selection still has many components.
Yes I think he really wants to be here and won't bail on us.
Yes I think he has great potential as a coach.
Yes I'm glad to see a man without a dirty background (Barnett).
Yes I want him to succeed.
Yes he could prove his worth to me with results.
"No" - I don't think he was the best possible outcome of the (realistic) names bounced around last week.
"No" he doesn't have some of the experience I wanted (proven D1 HC, capable of a turnaround, can recruit to a place like Ames).
Overall I'm happy. Could have been better or much worse.
I give the hire a 7 out of 10.
I give ISU, JP and the new coach my full support and can't wait for the spring game.
Go 'clones.
I think this is the beginning of some real positive things for ISU football.
He must have a melon head. Those hats used to be called "one size fits all" Now they are going to be called "one size fits most"
