I don't if anybody saw this on the Ames Trib website, but Jamie has said that both Sheppard and Becton are staying on. When talking about posting their jobs, he said that was SOP in case the new coach wants to bring somebody in, but right now they don't plan on making a change.

As far as who I would like to see as assistants? From what we've seen already, I think we'll see a combo of some of Mac's old assistants, some from when he was at Pitt and hopefully some from Tubberville's old staff from Auburn. I did read on the Birmingham News' website that they thought Don Dunn, the former Auburn DL coach might come with him since both he & Rhoads have know each other since their days at Pacific. I know someone had mentioned Eddie Gran on one of the earlier posts, I don't know if we can get him. He interviewed with Lane Kiffin over the weekend, so he may be off to Tennessee.

So it's possible we could trade d-line coaches with Auburn too? Pelton for Dunn...

One positive that PR has is that he hasn't bounced around blowing up all the bridges in his wake. He can definitely consult with some of his former bosses for advice and recommendations.

He has a strong relationship with Johnny Majors and I would guess that Tubberville, McCarney, Harris and Wannstedt would all be willing to provide advice that may be very helpful in assembling his staff and planning for success.

He seems like the type of person that has solid relationships with people and that should go a long way in helping him assemble a strong staff.

Re: Any good guess at asst. coaches?

Here's what I'd like to see:

OC/QB: Herman, Borges, Malzahn or Franklin
RB: Alford or Austin if Tony wants to stay at Louisville
    WR: Mike Grant
    TE: Bliel
    OL: McFarland

    DL: Dunn
    DE: Partridge (Co-DC)
LB: Willis (Co-DC)...either that or Blackwell
    DB: Ash

    Ops: Woodley
XXXX Master Shake is under gag order XXXX

He didn't say they're staying on, he said that they are still in their current positions. They still have to meet with Rhoads.

Correct. Apparently, however, several players have emphasized to Rhoads in their phone conversations with him that they like Sheppard, and his assistant. My gut feeling is that it might be up to Sheppard, if he wants to stay. That's a big if, IMO, since he came up here with Chizik. He is getting paid nice $$$ here; a lot more than Getty got...

That's a hard position to fill. Players are inherently connected to a strength coach because they spend so much time with them. I would be surprised if PR keeps him unless it's being pressured upon him by JP.

Ive talked to a current starter whos told me in the past Shepard is head and shoulders above McGattigan. He said McG focused on stretching and injury prevention while the players gained power and speed under Shepard.
    I'm living the dream.

But Shep is gone isnt he. They have his job posted on the ISU website. He gone. I dont think they have announced him at Auburn or any of Chiz's coaches.

I'd bet that every assistant has to reapply for their job.

I can't imagine he'd choose to retain anyone without doing so.

If current coaches have not been named as hired they are most likely done(99.99%). Sad but thats the idea behind the head coach having his own scheme. All coaches understand that. Only been two hires I believe. Bill Bliel (O) from akron (spelling?) and Chris Ash (D). If no news is out by sunday paper we'll have to wait on Bowl games. Reminder- we lost all Conf. games last year with a 5-19 record under cheizdick. Who would feel confident with that. I like the "so fresh and so clean" slate. No Past. Just thinking bout tomorrow. Call me Jon Miller but I say Conf. Champs before PR's5 year contract is up.
