    Groovy.

Hopefully he coaches with an iron fist.

What do you mean, "Flash Gordon approaching"?

In 06, we managed just 4 wins and ranked 102nd in total defense with players that included Brent Curvey, Shawn Moorehead, Tuba Rubin, Ace Bowen, Tyrone McKenzie, Jon Banks, and DeAndre Jackson (1/2 of the season). Opposing teams completed over 72% of their passes against us and we managed a total of 6 interceptions the entire season. FWIW, we were 4 plays away from being 0-12.

In 07, playing Chase Daniel, Colt McCoy and Graham Harrell in their 2nd year and Todd Reesing (instead of Kerry Meier), Sam Bradford (instead of Paul Thompson) our defense improved to 65th in the nation after losing Curvey, Moorehead, McKenzie and Jackson.

I am not saying to keep the current staff intact, what I am saying is that we should not look back with inaccurate perceptions of the past. Also, since I am on a rant, I would hope that people take into consideration that our current players have been a part of the 5-19 record that everyone is so quick to attack GC about. Those players have pride and each time you attack the record, you are also disrespecting the players. I am pleased with the youthful talent we have and look forward to seeing these players grow, mature, and with another good recruiting class or two, take the next step to actually winning the outright B12 North title and play for the B12 championship and in a BCS game during my lifetime.
    Rep to you...

Folks seem to have a short memory on this site. We got rid of Dan and his staff for a reason. Are there a few good coaches we would welcome back....YES. Are there some on the existing staff that should be retained....YES. Do we need some new blood and new ideas with staff that hasn't been here before....YES.

I believe a combination of old, existing, and new is the way to move forward.

    I hope PR agrees.

Hey Schroeder, if I had to trust anyone's opinion on isu fb on here it'd be you...but I'm uncertain as to why you think Tony Alford. If he's been trying to get an o-coordinator position previously, why don't you think it has found him if he's that good of a coach?

Very well said klerme. It's good to be reminded that these are our players and that through thick and thin, we will be supportive of their efforts as student athletes! Nice post.

It is one of the most common things in college football. There is the trust factor, and there is the 80-100 hours per week together factor.

RB is the easiest position to coach in football. I'm not sure but I would guess that there are not many former RB coaches who have become OC without evolving to another position first. This is just a guess and I have done no research, but none come to mind.

I have some of the same questions that you do. Tony is a proven RB coach and recruiter, but hasn't been successful at landing an OC position. His name was thrown around at ISU when Loney left the second time. The job went to Steve Brickey who didn't find much success.

I realize that there are numerous examples of a coach being able to handle switching positions or even changing sides of the ball. At the same time, I believe that the odds of having an offense click improve when the OC brings a background of coaching either OL or QB.

My hope is that PR attempts to install a more sophisticated offense than what Cyclone fans have typically seen. Dumbing down the play calling and trying to win with execution can defeat the middle and lower tier teams. I'm hoping to see more innovative methods employed to give play makers an opportunity to exploit the top tier teams. I don't see much in Tony's background showing that he has the track record to install and run a cutting edge offense.

So he can continue to focus on one player? Maybe we should have 85 coaches.

Seriously, I think Koonz has potential, but I still would assume he finds his way back to Auburn. He's followed Jean (intentional) twice, why not a third.

Well he came to ISU as a RB coach after a couple years went out to Washington to coach their running backs then came back to ISU. After Mac was let go he found his way to Louisville to coach the RB's. His main problem has been he has been going to programs that already had established OC's in place when he got there.

My assessement is this, I believe most people see coach Alford as a good recruiter and thats it. Yes he is a great recruiter, he brought us Ennis H. and he did alot of good things for our football team (and our intramural basketball team right Fickclone, LOL) but I think he has the knowledge and experience to be a good OC for us if given the chance.

No kidding. It's not going to happen. I can't believe a man crush runs so deep that people are still hoping to get him back here. Wish him well in the future, he's gone.

Any chance on guys like Alford that he would come as OC in waiting? We could get a hotshot ( Guy at tulsa) knowing that he would only stay a couple of years. Then TA would get the job? Just a idea.

    Re: Ash is back

I would love to see us get someone with recruiting ties in the upper midwest. Minnesota, South and North Dakota, Michigan, etc. Being back in the Cedar Valley, and seeing some of the beasts that UNI is finding and developing from this area. O and D lineman that have some growing left to do. Florida and Texas have the speed guys, specialty guys, but ISU needs to get the beasts on the line and start pounding the Big 12 south. Somehow the Big 12 is turning into a "soft" conference and ISU can take advantage of that.

    LET'S GO STATE!!!
