I thought I would share a few tidbits of information I found on the internet regarding Darius "Money" Reynolds.
From the Fresno Bee (November 20, 2008): It was the end of October and Reedley College football coach Michael White was at a crossroads. The Tigers were 4-3 after losing 27-17 to San Joaquin Delta in Stockton. Preseason All-America quarterback Darius Reynolds had turned into a bust and a distraction that was weighing on the team and had thrown the offense into near chaos. "I didn't think we had much leadership and, with the distractions, we needed to make changes," White said. The Tigers' coach kicked Reynolds and his brother, Keondric, off the team for violations of rules. "There was so much focused on individuality. We needed people to take charge," White said.
Also from the Fresno Bee (September 16, 2008): Here we go again. QB Darius Reynolds, plagued by injuries last year, again isn't himself after suffering a hard hit in the season opener. Reynolds is one of the most electric players in the state when he's healthy, which so far hasn't been very often.
From these articles, two things jump out about Reynolds. First and foremost, at least according to his coach (a two-time California Juco Coach-of-the-Year and former National Juco Coach-of-the-Year), "Money" seems to be plagued with "Me" syndrome and he has the ability to be a "cancer" in a team setting (who knows, maybe those two are connected). And secondly, he has a history of injuries during his Juco career.
For what its worth, following Reynolds' suspension, Reedley College went on to win all of their remaining regular season games (after the 4-3 start) and eventually lost in the Northern California Juco championship game to number-one rated Butte College 24-21.
Although I can't see where he was given any other scholorship offers, according to Scout, other schools who had shown interest included Clemson, Arizona, California, Kansas State, and South Florida.
Unfortunately, there is a tremendous amount of risk in recruiting a player with this type of history. Can he be a great player at Iowa State? Certainly. But can he be a cancer, a distraction, and a bust? I'll let you be the judge. And you're absolutely rite, a kid that tells the new head coach that he will play where ever the team needs him is all about himself. You spend way too much time looking for dirt to throw

As best I understand it, every PC connected to the internet is assigned a specific address location (IP address). Which means, someone used your PC to sign up here at CF under a screen name other than Wingback. IP addresses can change, I believe (shut down a PC for 8 hours or so, next time you access the Web a new IP address will be assigned to your PC). BTW, the Wing-T is my all-time favorite offense. Does your Wingback monitor relate to that offense?

Im thrilled to have Darius joining our team. He has great physical attributes and has the ability to be something special. If he does or not will depend on his dedication, and hard work he puts in while at ISU.

Tell him not to sweat it.. the countless cyclones I've talked to about him are nothing but thrilled.. I suspect you might find a few "cyclone fans" that feel otherwise posting out of Iowa City.. so I wouldn't worry about it. Best thing really is to ignore them. Merry Christmas.. can't wait to see him play.

I don't understand all this dicussion about this being "a risk." In my opinion he will have learned his lesson at JUCO and will come here with a new attitude. He knows he is not the star on this team, but rather will have to prove he can play along with every other player on this roster. If he comes in and is a distraction PR can make an example of him early on and give him the boot (but I do not think this will happen). Everyone whines about our team needing to get faster and more athletic, then we go out and get someone and there are complaints about his past. I believe he will be just fine, and will help us out immensly next year. I also think it is shocking that people refuse to give him the benefit of the doubt. He is a CYCLONE now and has done nothing to make CYCLONE fans distrust him. Did his actions in CA affect last season? If you want to find something to complain about, complain about someone who has wronged the Cyclone family (Chizik, Wes Johnson, Phillip Bates, ect.) not someone who has made a committment to come play for us.
I have no problem if some of the haters (Lenny) yell and scream for him to get booted off the team if he slips up, but for now why is it that you refuse to support a player that made a decision to come try and better our squad next year?

Re: You don't have to call him Money...
From the sounds of it, seems like Darius has had to grow up some in JC and it sounds like he did. Let's not forget these recruits are young and will make mistakes. It happens and is a part of growing up. What is encouraging about Darius' situation is it truly sounds like he has learned from his mistakes and is ready to play for ISU. I'm excited to see him on campus.

I never screamed for him to get thrown off. I said I didn't think he would play a down. I'm even Ok with taking some risky players. I was just questioning if the kid really "Choose" ISU or if he was really out of options at this point. A month or two ago he was all set to come here then backed off. I guess at that point I wondered if he had finally received another D1 offer. Now he's with us and I'm just wondering if he had other offers or not. Seems like he choose us because he hd no other choice.
Whatever...good luck MONEY.

Who cares how he got here? Why would that matter at all? The fact of the matter is that Money will be one of our better recruits coming in next year, is a guy with some experience, and should help round out what should be a pretty good receiving core. I don't know where your resentment towards the guy comes from. Do you question what offers all our other commits had?
Find someone new to "pick on." I suggest Greg McDermott.

Whatever...good luck MONEY. Why even question it if it doesn't matter? He has committed to ISU so why does it matter so much to you if he had other offers? It "seems" to me that you just don't like this kid. Grow up, Lenny.
