    Re: New Asst. Coach?

Well we know at least one coach will be retained. ABC 5 just announced that Scott Fountain will stay on.

That is excellent news. I have heard nothing but good things about Fountain and I believe he very well liked by the players. Good recruiter.

    Re: New Asst. Coach?

I know nothing about Scott Fountain, but I really think it's a smart move to retain SOME of the old staff. If he's also a good recruiter that's just icing! I'm liking every move Paul's made so far. Keep it up!
"I think that people are responding to someone standing up and saying this is what we want to do and let's not be afraid to go for it,'' Pollard said. "I think Iowa State has a very conservative, modest background. We never pound our chest and say `Let's do it.' It's OK to set a goal. You can't do it if you don't say what you want to do. You should be proud of it.''

    Re: New Asst. Coach?

I'm very happy Fountain is staying on. He is our recruiting coordinator and according to Paul Clark, Chizik would have been completely lost without him. He is our lead recruiter for D.J. Beshears, Conor Boffeli, Deon Broomfield, Ryan Mosby, and Jeremy Reeves. He is also the lead recruiter for Dyron Dye. Last year he was the lead recruiter for Ernest Ferguson, Scott Haughton, Jake McDonough, Lonzie Range, and Jeremiah Schwartz, as well as D.J. Marshall who was committed at one point. He might be the best recruiter from the previous staff.

As recruiting coordinator, did it say? Seems like a natch he would continue there, just askin'.

A terrific continuity appointment. Like others here, I'm just darned happy with the course PR is charting.

Two of them were on the defensive side of the ball. Remember how great our defense was this year? We have heard about how great a DL coach Pelton is but we never saw the results. Possibly because of talent but the only player I saw get better was Frere.Koonz helped out with the secondary didn't he? Again maybe a talent issue but who got better in the last two years in the secondary?

    Re: New Asst. Coach?

I'm not going to miss Koonz. I thought that he was a good young coach, but anyone coaching that defense doesn't deserve to stay. Not to mention, Koonz is basically a Chizik coattail-rider. I wouldn't have minded keeping Pelton, but oh well.

If Fountain is really staying, that is a nice development for ISU. That should help recruiting stability. I hope that CPR keeps McFarland and possibly Peterson (if the OC doesn't coach QBs).
