Does anyone else find it strange that he didn't go to the locker room at half time and just sent the message to play Penn State football?

You would think that after getting man handled in the first half he would have wanted to light a little fire.

Well they did do better in the second half. Joe Pa will die the head coach. I am a fan of Joe but that dude is out of it now. He has earned the right to just die right there coaching a game. I would love to see that happen. That sounds strange don't it.

If I was that age, I think the trip down to the locker room and back would be equivalent to a marathon. He obviously has some really long time assistants that are capable of handling that.

What's he doing as the head coach then? I would believe his OC and DC are calling plays. He's sitting up in the booth with Toll Booth Willy just hanging out cashing that check.

If he is around to get recruits thats cool because I'm sure the JoPa name brings in players, I'm just wondering what his game day coaching duties are.

I'm pretty sure he didn't go down to the locker room because halftime probably would have been half over by the time he got down there. He would have had enough time to say about one sentence before he had to turn around to go back to the press box so he could make it back before the start of the second half.

I have a hard time knocking JoPa because he's one of the all-time greats and deserves to go out on his own terms. He's been the face of Penn State football since 1966, has more wins than any D1 coach, more bowl game wins, and more undefeated seasons than any coach in college football history. And in an age of high paid coaches, he's been coaching for a VERY low salary ($512,664 in 2007 and $490,638 in 2006.) And you gotta love this quote when it was finally revealed how much he's being paid: "I'm paid well, I'm not overpaid," Paterno said during an interview with reporters Wednesday before the salary disclosure. "I got all the money I need."

All those reasons are enough that no one should be questioning him, as long has he still has the passion to coach and can physically do his job (whether from the sidelines or pressbox) more power to him to continue to do what he loves I say. He's still a tough coach to play for, remember this when he made the players stay after a game to help clean the stadium: Taking out the trash - College Football - Rivals.com That's the kind of coach you want to coach your son because not only will they be coached well in football they'll be held accountable for their actions as a human being as well and groomed to be resonsible men.

That guy deserve to go out on his own terms.
He's only had 5 losing seasons since he started head coaching. We've had close to that this decade.

I would suspect that next year, after fully recovering from hip surgery he had maybe a month ago, he will be on the field.

Cut the dude some slack he just had a hip replaced.

He has earned the right to go out on his own terms and as far as opportunities for his asst. coaches there are over 100 other schools they could coach at. He runs a good program and has done more for the school then most people know. (Paterno Library..)

I agree he can stay at Penn State as long as he wants, he's earn that and I like the fact that Penn State realizes that. I just thought it was odd that he didn't go see his team, leave the press box a little early to get down there.

I'm sure he didn't stay in the press box by choice. It was almost certainly by necessity or doctor's orders.

He is the face of Penn State and you couldn't ask for a better representative.

What would he have said to them anyways? He has no clue what's going on...he just listens to the oldies through his headset...

The dude had his team in a BCS game and was 1 win away from playing for the national title...he is still getting the job done.

Make fun of him all you want, but we would kill for a coach like him here at Iowa State.

We have at least pushed out a legend of a coach twice because it was time and the right thing to do: Johnny Orr and Bobby Douglas. I was in agreement with both moves.

I would be embarrassed as a PSU fan. While I recognize Joe Pa and his many accomplishments, and think he is a great person, he should realize that it is time to go.
