Re: New OC announced on
In addition to being one heck of an offensive strategist, Herman is also a member of Mensa, the largest, oldest and best known organization for high-IQ people.
When you pair that with a head coach who was the valadictorian of his class, that's a pretty smart combination!

I hope everyone on the board got to see Rice in their bowl game.....this offense has the chance to be the great 'equalizer'.

Re: New OC announced on
I still think Defense wins games.
Our offense actually put up some good numbers overall this year.
Still very happy with the hire. The spread offense seems to be the way football is going.

Re: New OC announced on
Great hire, between Malzahn and Herman I think Herman is the better option due to having been in the college ranks much longer and has quite a bit better recruiting ties due to this. Our offense wasn't the downfall last season, but I think it can now go to the next level.

Re: New OC announced on
He's a young coach with recruiting ties to Texas and his offensives have been explosive. I don't see what's not to like about this hire. I'm excited to see what he can do with the weapons we have in our program already.

Yeah, North Texas blows....
Their QB had a day and a half back in the pocket. That blocking was phenomenal.

Do we know which commits he brought to Rice for next season? Any chance they might head our way?

God I hope Bo and Schwartz stay. This is has the opportunity to be ONE heck of an offense and If I was one of them I would definitely want to be a part of it.
And btw - SEASON TICKETS, yeah, gettin' me some of them season tickets...AGAIN!

I'd take PB on my team any day, but I don't ever see him being a dominant QB. He doesn't throw a tight enough spiral to consistently put the ball where it needs to be.

Re: New OC announced on
From Greg Ohlson:
I just talked with new offensive coordinator, Tom Herman, for just a few minutes and he seems like a really great guy. This is an outstanding hire by Coach Rhoads and I really feel that Coach Herman will do a great job with all the young weapons that ISU has coming back. He is a guy that I think a lot of high school kids will want to play for. I have to say that this just made my day because I honestly think this offense can do really big things next year.
He said that Coach Rhoads called him earlier in the day and offered him the job and that he accepted and was very excited to be heading to Iowa State. He couldn't talk for long but we will have more with him in a few days.
Also, I talked with some of the Rice media today and they are very upset because they know what they had. They expect him to do huge things at Iowa State.
I also talked with Coach Don Dunn, the former DL Coach at Auburn and he told me that he HAS NOT been offered a position on the staff by Coach Rhoads. He really liked working with Coach Rhoads and told me that he would be very interested in coming to Ames if offered the job. http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=171&f=2549&t=3708844
