I was told by a very good source that the running back coach was coming from UNLV.

The latest addition to the UNLV coaching staff, running backs coach Kenith Pope was hired on May 1 by Rebel head coach Mike Sanford, filling out his 2008 staff.
Pope joined the Rebels after five years as the assistant head coach at Texas A&M, where he also oversaw the Aggie running backs the last two seasons and the team's wide receivers from 2004-05.
A veteran of three decades in coaching, Pope also served as assistant head coach/receivers coach at Alabama in 2001-02. Other stops included TCU (from 1998-2000), Oklahoma (1995-97), Mississippi State (1991-94), Oklahoma State (1987-90) and SMU (1981-86). He started his coaching career career at Beaumont Herbert (Texas) High School.
"Kenith Pope is an outstanding and very experienced division-one football coach who adds a tremendous amount to our staff," Sanford said. "Normally with a new coach coming in there is a period of adjustment, but with Kenith's impressive background I feel like our run game will only get better from day one."
Pope has coached in 15 bowl games, including two Cotton, two Holiday and three Sun. He has also mentored 15 players who have gone on to the NFL, including Greg Favors (Jaguars), Jason Carter (Panthers) and Freddie Milons (Eagles).
A defensive back at the University Oklahoma, Pope earned his bachelor's degree from the school in 1976. He was a ninth round choice by the Oakland Raiders in the 1974 NFL Draft and played that same season with the New England Patriots.
Born on Dec. 28, 1951, in Galveston, Texas, he is married to the former Pam Armstrong. The couple has a godson, Jordan Awadalla, and two goddaughters, Geneva Lathan and Shaina Hall.

Yeah, but A&M had a pretty damned good crew of RBs under him. Plus, if I'm not mistaken he was the running backs coach for some guy named Ladainian Tomlinson at TCU...maybe you've heard of him?

Pope would be another great hire IMO. Good experience and more Texas recruiting ties.

Coming on May 1st at UNLV is darn late to have much impact on runningbacks. He couldn't recruit and had to go with hand he dealt(which was't very good from the stats).

Maybe it is too obvious for many of you but it is Ditka. Ditka was in Vegas over the weekend visiting O.J. Simpson. The fact is Ditka has interviewed here twice in the last 3 years to only be turned down for the head coaching job. Ditka has come around to accept the fact he is going to have to work his way up to be the head coach at ISU.
