Public opinion of Coach Rhoads

I was talking to a coworker this week (ISU grad) and asked him what he thought of the new FB coach. His response shocked me.

"I've never heard of him. I'm kinda dissapointed that we grabbed the first guy that showed interest in the job."

I know that Coach Rhoads has gotten pretty good reviews around here, but does the rest of the Cyclone Nation feel the same way?
Has anyone else heard any similar comments from those who may be a bit less informed?

Judging by the staff he is putting together, I am honestly thinking he will be better for us than chiz would of.

Yea I'm excited about Rhoads being here. I'm just sick of people who don't think he should be the one and that Pollard should be fired.

The general public just doesn't know that much about him. I remember the same thing going on with Ferenz. Actually probably more dissappointment as most Hawks thought Stoops should be the coach and they were wondering who the heck is this Ferenz guy?

All that matters to me is what professionals in that field think(and from what I've heard it's almost universally been postive from the coaching ranks) and my impression of the guy and I like what I've been hearing so far..

Some feel that way. Do your own homework and make up your own mind and tell other to do the same. From day 1 I thought he was a guy to go after, his name came up 2 years ago and I have kept an eye on him. He isnt the flashy hire, not the guy to go out and say look at me when he was an asst, he hasnt coached at a true FB power, but he is the guy that does a good job quitely and doesnt want a big deal made when he does a good job. IMO he has a solid resume and putting together a good staff. He has also reached out to Iowa HS coaches more than Chizik every did, has reached out to the fans more than Chizik, and reached out to the local media in ways Chizik would never do. When he talks there isnt that voice in your head always wondering about what he is saying.

I know a few people that are disappointed because we didn't hire someone with head coaching experience. They seem to think that we're headed down the same road as w/ Mac and Chizik, as in having to learn on the job.

I have to admit that I was not enamored by the hire of PR, although I wasn't a huge fan of a lot of the options this time around. But, I like what I'm seeing so far as Rhoads assembles his staff and suspect we will be just fine. It will be interesting to see who is hired as defensive coordinator.
