Re: Let the Fire Stoops talk begin...
Oklahoma would be crazy to do so, but who knows. I know I wouldn't mind seeing another branch on the Hayden Fry tree fall.
The campaign starts now. November 6, 2012. -

Is coach Rhoads part of that Fry tree, sure he didnt coach for him but he did coach for one of Fry's favorites.

Re: Let the Fire Stoops talk begin...
Really??? I'm surprised that there would be many talking about it. Yeah... there's always some that will hate a guy no matter what he does and use every opportunity they can to point out why he should be fired... but I'd be really surprised if there is a higher percentage of sooner fans calling for Stoops' job then Cyclone Fans calling for McD's job (based on what I see on this site) Please don't use this as a topic changer to start talking about McD... I'm just using him for a percentage comparison... as I don't think there is a very high percentage of people calling for McD to go...
This is my sarcasm pirate. There are many like it but this one is mine. -

Re: Let the Fire Stoops talk begin...
Who would they even go after, Turner Gill, Petersen, Whittingham? Just seems ridiculous.

Re: Let the Fire Stoops talk begin...
Why would anyone at Oklahoma ever think of firing stoops? The man has played with one of the hardest schedules in college football for the past 9 years, one of those years he and the team won a national championship. He has taken the team to the national championship 4 out of those 9 years.(2008,2000,2003,2004). 7 out of those 9 years, he took the team to a BCS bowl game, a feat in itself. In his time at Oklahoma, the man has 102 wins and 23 losses for a .814. There aren't many coaches that can play that level of ball and win 81.4% of the time. Yes, he is at oklahoma, but look at the schools he has to compete with for recruits each year, and then play each year. The man does not deserve to be fired, if anything Oklahoma should be giving him a contract extension.

Re: Let the Fire Stoops talk begin...
That would be rediculous. He made 4 national title games in 9 year. He won one of them.

Re: Let the Fire Stoops talk begin...
In the national championship 4 of the last 9 years and some sooners would want him fired? seems a little ridiculous to me.
the people that want him fired are the ones who buy their soooners clothes at walmart and cant name anyone else on the team except sam bradford. basically people that you ignore on a daily basis.

Looking at the Okie fans, they looked pretty depressed and esigned to the inevitable at the end. Thta is five years of vactions with a losing effort. They might be better off going to a smaller bowl next year after Bradford goes pro. Tebow may be back for Dan fans.

Re: Let the Fire Stoops talk begin...
Must be a nice problem OU has...
If you think about it, you want your coach taking you to bigger and better things. Thats why Dan McCarney was let, err resigned. He brought us to a certain level and couldn't take us further.
Stoops can consisently win Big XII championships and get his teams to BCS games or National Chamionships (the farce that they are anyways)
What he has not be able to do with any form of consisentcy is win the Bowl games he gets them to. He's one 1 of 4 national championships... Florida has just won what, 2 in 3 years?
Not to say the Stoops is a poor coach by any means, or that I'd agree with his being fired, I'm just saying if you step away from the fact that they get to the national chapionship game frequently... what the "Fire Stoops" comments would be based on is the desire to take their program to the next level.
And it just so happens that the next level for them is winning National Championships, not just playing for them... (Which is a situation that we as Cyclone fans can only dream about)
Like I said at the beganning of this ramble - must be a nice problem to have
Oh we will fight, fight, fight for Iowa State, and may her colors ever fly!!! In Accordance with Prophecy -
Re: Let the Fire Stoops talk begin...
Seems to me that execution in the red zone cost them the game, not really the coaching.
Nothing to see here mods. Keep moving. -
Re: Let the Fire Stoops talk begin...
Stoops will be fired right after Tressel gets fired.

Re: Let the Fire Stoops talk begin...
What I saw, at least this year, was a very uncertain quarterback on Bradford's part, one who didn't run the fast paced offense that I'm used to seeing. He seemed completely out of his league in this game, more like a high school quarterback than a Heisman winner. The sooners were missing their number one runner due to injury which really changed how they played the game. What Bradford should have done is taken the Tebow route, holding on to the ball and running once in a while, what he did instead was to do nothing except for passes and handoffs. Oklahoma was also missing one of their starting D tackles, a very big loss when you consider who they had to defend against. What was Stoops supposed to do, go to Bradford and tell him that he's playing like a girl, afraid to get take a hit, and take the Heisman winner out of the game? I'm sure that one would go over real well with the fans and the press. The loss really came down to the quarterbacks. Tebow was willing to step up and get hit once in a while. Bradford, on the other hand, needs to hand back that heisman and hit the weight room so that he can even dream of doing the same.
