Not many people can swing that much money for a house.
I don't know what it will bring, but will be interested in hearing.
It is a pretty sweet place, but square footage is square footage.
When we were moving to and from NE (long story) we could only look at homes 100,000 or less.
It was easier in a small farming town in NE than here in Ames. We ended up renting.

I'm not saying to buy a double-wide but you can have a great house for 200K. I presume that people have different standards. I have a house bigger than the one linked on this thread and its just me and my wife.

I bet in only brings $300,000.. You could purchase a starter condo for $300,000 in the area where I live.

Me, too. I couldn't stand having that hanging over my head as soon as I moved. You've got no job security at all. How is it really intelligent to throw this much money into a home that probably won't build any equity in your short time there?
We didn't like having our $59,000 mortgage to pay while we were back here in Iowa rebuilding. I can't imagine the nightmare of paying that Chizik mortgage.

Even making more, why would you waste money on that mortgage payment in Ames while you're paying on another home in Alabama? That's setting yourself up for financial suicide, just with bigger #s than mine/yours are.
What would a mortgage payment be on that monster? Can a person make any money on the sale, or do they just have to take an offer to get it off of their hands?

You got understand I'm a Chevy kind of guy. Why buy a Ferrari or Porsche when you can buy a Vette for a 1/3 of the cost?
Little details and materials are smoke and mirror tatics to get someone to pay more then they should(my opinion there).

You're right. I just don't look for stuff that I won't notice that often later. I'm pretty much boring and functional.
