Re: ESPN Prestige Rankings.....ISU #114
Here's the one they did for college basketball, but I'm not sure they went outside the top 10.
edit: They did, and ISU was #57.

True the only way is up, but given the point system I think it will be a while before significant progress is made.

And that football list is a joke. Programs that haven't been around long automatically have advantages over programs that have been around a long time, but have never really been top dog. Plus, the negative point stuff is extremely underweighted.
-1 or -2 for cheating? +10 for big bowls, 25 for a national title. Why even have the negative points? Especially -2 for a losing season? This is equal to getting banned from TV AND losing scholarships?

Re: ESPN Prestige Rankings.....ISU #114
Okay, some advice of what to tell your kids.
1. Its easy to be an Iowa fan. Its easy to be a Nebraska fan too. It takes a special person to be a true Iowa State fan. Want to do what's easy? Great, tell them to get that easy job and the easy girl (wait. that should happen...at least as a college freshman), and always take the easy route. Life will be infinitely less rewarding.
2. Iowa is bad. And mean. This resonates well w/kids. Tell them Iowa is that big brother/bully that trips you in the lunchroom and spreads false rumors - ruining your reputation all the way through high school.
3. Take them to a county jail, state pen or federal prison. Tell them that all those bad men are Hawkeyes. As it is, this isn't as far from the truth as it normally would be (knocking on wood that this point doesn't immediately swing the arrest trend towards Ames)
4. Sing the fight song to your kids. Make sure they know the words.
5. Pay for thier tickets to Cyclone games, complete with all the candy and other crap they want. If they wanna be sheep and be Hawkeye fans like their sheep friends @ school, make them pay for thier own ticket. And make them go alone. And get really scared. That'll teach em.
6. Stress the importance of a campus without power lines or traffic. Tell them to trust you, this will be important when they get past their fascination with Dora, Spongebob and Cars.
7. Have them tell you every day the worst thing that happened to them in school. Tell them that happens every single day in Iowa City.
8. Repeat #7 but opposite. Tell them all those fun things and the big freakin candy bar your holding happens every single day at Iowa State.
9. Note that the Grinch, Swiper the Fox and the mean kid from Hannah Montana all went to Iowa.
10. Threaten spanking. It works.

One of my greatest fears is that my 19 month old son and my second son (due in April) will become Hawkeye fans. Hopefully ISU can turn the corner and make some improvements over the next few years. I'm a Cubs fan too and that hasn't been going too well either.

Check out who I cheer for.
I don't think I'm alone when I say I'd like to see more and more planets fall under the ruthless domination of our solar system. -

Remember, it's not how well the Cyclones do, it's how you raise your kids. Just try not to get to upset when they lose, or they won't like Iowa State because when they play, they make daddy mad “There have been a lotta tough guys. There have been pretenders. And there have been contenders. But there is only one king.” -

Re: ESPN Prestige Rankings.....ISU #114
Some people who think this ranking is out of line need to get off your meds. Personally, it's interesting to get an objective look at how others actually view our program. Not just from people bickering back and forth between rivals, but real expert analysts that know what they're talking about.
It's completely humbling to see that many think of us as one of the top 10 worst football programs in all of football. Every once in awhile, it's good to have reality slap us in the face so we realize why we're not recruiting well or winning. The good news is, nobody probably notices.
Sure we play in a good conference, but we never win in it, so what's the point? Kind of like being the ogre friend of all the good looking people.

IMO, what I don't agree with in these rankings is the emphasis on fan support in comparision to success... here we are with our "sorry" reputation as a football team, but our fan base and game turnouts are outstanding given our success on the field...the way i see it, the fans should be considered since fan turnout means money, which creates opportunity for more prestigious facilities, coaches, and recruits, etc... we should easily be within the top 100
