If you are concerned that Auburn hired the next Urban Meyer, Do not worry. ISU looked unprepared in most of its games last year, but it does appear that GC has been able to get some really good assistants for Auburn.

Re: Opinions On Gene Chizik
Dear Univ of Auburn & Fanbase
Thanks so much for taking Gene Chizik aka Cheesedip off our hands, maybe now that we have a real football coach with midwestern values, we can move our football program ahead to the winners circle....
Thanks again Auburn -

Re: Opinions On Gene Chizik
He may be a good coach at Auburn. Unfortunately for us at ISU, he likely learned his lesson about assembling a staff of buddies. He seemed to have learned (through his time with us) that it takes great coaches on a staff and not just friends from previous work experiences to win some games (to be determined of course).

Re: Opinions On Gene Chizik
I am an Iowa Stater that now lives in SEC country. I follow both the SEC and the Big 12 closely.
Chizik is clearly in the bottom 3 of SEC coaches at present. The SEC has 4 guys that wear National Championship rings as a result of their head coaching efforts...Spurrier, Saban, Meyer, and Miles. There are 5 coaches with pretty darned good college resume's...Brooks, Johnson, Nutt, Petrino, and Richt. Then there is Kiffin, Mullen, and Chizik...Kiffin has pro experience as a head coach, Mullen has no experience as a head coach, and Chizik has a poor record as a head coach.
I think Chizik was doing the right things at ISU but he is in way over his head at AU and the SEC is just too good with too many good coaches (that can both recruit and coach)...he will struggle and he will be gone soon.

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes. -

I just wanted to gather some opinions on the hiring from people that experienced a couple seasons of Chizik first hand. Was it a good hiring by Auburn? Is Chizik a good head coach, or better off staying in the game as a defensive coordinator? How good of a recruiter is Gene? By the way...I heard from an AU guy that Bama is about to be accused of recruiting violations in FB...have you heard that? According to this guy, it seems that a lot of their recent signees and parents of those signees seem to be driving brand new Escalades. Not sure if it was just wishful thinking from an AU guy or something that may really come to fruition.

Re: Opinions On Gene Chizik
Chizik robbed himself of the opportunity to become a good head coach. It's true that he will learn from his ISU mistakes but he still has a lot of learning to do as a head coach. Learning takes time and he won't have any at Auburn. He'll be lucky to go .500 in year 1 and will get decimated by Alabama. Not good enough at Auburn. I say he's gone before the 2010 Iron Bowl.
It's too bad because I think he could've gotten ISU into the BXII Championship in a few years and then EARNED a move to Auburn. As it is now I think the vast majority of Auburn fans want to see him fail and be fired, quickly.

Re: Opinions On Gene Chizik
In my opinion, the players very rarely looked pumped-up. I went to a few games and the crowd was begging the players to show some emotion, but it didn't happen. I know Chizik supposedly preached an even-keel, never let them see you sweat attitude, but I think he just didn't care and it was passed on to the kids. Our players deserve better and hopefully they will get it with the new coach.

Whoever replaced Tubby won't be as succesful as Tubby w/o time. That job will be open again in two years. Doesn't matter if it was chizik or someone else.

Re: Opinions On Gene Chizik
Good luck with him you may need it. I did not see his bluff on Iowa State. To me he only cares about Gene and only Gene, be careful. What I do not get is why the hell would you fire Tommy who got you to very good season's and hire one of his old assistants?? Weird to me.

Doesn't matter if it was chizik or someone else. I totally agree and I think this is true in all aspects of life when replacing someone. This is especially true when someone has a long tenure. Here is one way that I have looked at it. Since McCarney was here quite a while as far as head coaches go, his replacement (Chizik) was most likely just going to be around a few years. That way, Chizik's replacement (Rhoads) won't be compared to McCarney as much. I don't know how accurate that is, but it seems to make sense to me.
