Opinions On Gene Chizik
So guys, as you've probably picked up by now, I'm an SEC guy. Recently, former Iowa State head coach Gene Chizik was hired by the University of Auburn to become their new head coach after Tommy Tuberville was fired.
I just wanted to gather some opinions on the hiring from people that experienced a couple seasons of Chizik first hand. Was it a good hiring by Auburn? Is Chizik a good head coach, or better off staying in the game as a defensive coordinator? How good of a recruiter is Gene?

Re: Opinions On Gene Chizik
It was a terrible terrible hire by Auburn
"These are my new shoes. They're good shoes. They won't make you rich like me, they won't make you rebound like me, they definitely won't make you handsome like me. They'll only make you have shoes like me. That's it." - Charles Barkley -

I think Gene will end up being a great hire. He hand picked some of the best position coaches in the country and has put together a ten times better staff than I could have imagined.

I live deep in SEC country, and if I have to listen to one more lack luster SEC team try to pass off Florida's accomplishments as their own, I'm going to nunchuck somebody! Hit 'em Hard Every Yard ISU -
Re: Opinions On Gene Chizik
I was a huge Chizik fan when he was here because he said all the right things about brought an attitude to ISU that was contagious. After the way he treated Iowa State I have changed my opinions about someone. He goes to show you have to believe the actions and not the words. Auburn could have gotten a lot better.

Re: Opinions On Gene Chizik
He lied to his assistants, players and fans. He didn't produce nor live up to expectations (most of which were his own).
What else is there to say?

He upgraded to where he wanted to coach.

What else is there to say? Showtime, if you want to know more about this best bet would be to look into the archives...starting late Wednesday/early Thursday before he was announced at Auburn that Saturday

Personally, I felt as though Auburn shouldn't have even fired Tuberville. It was Auburn's first year in the spread offense, yes, and it was anemic, but give the guy a break. It isn't his fault that his offensive coordinator ran a trashy spread offense... at least Auburn didn't implode with the spread in it's first year like Michigan did.

Re: Opinions On Gene Chizik
Gene came in, gave us a new attitude that we CAN be good. We didn't win, but he had a huge talent deficit when he came in and I really question his choice of D Coordinator. Gene upgraded the talent a great deal and made sure the kids stayed out of trouble. I really think, had he stayed, that next year could have been a good year...
THEN, he blows out the assistants, tells fans he is 'deeply entrenched' and hauls off in the middle of the night...
I appreciate what he did for all but the last couple of months, but can't stand him now... I don't blame him for upgrading his position, but it still sucks...

2) Horrible game day coach
3) Left ISU with work to be done, so will not get any love here
4) Brought in quality individuals to ISU. We have had very few player issues.
5) Did I mention horrible game day coach
6) Hired his buddies for OC/DC and they were in over they head. Looks like he did a better job at Auburn
7) Horrible game day coach
8) Good eye for talent
9) maintained a good familty atmosphere until he left and then he spent 2 minutes, literally, telling theplayers why he left and then he left. Yes, only two minutes
10) Looks out for GC all the way. Does a good job of selling character and loyalty but does not live by it.
11) Horrible gameday coach
He will get eaten alive by Saban
