Could we go a year without a DC?
Oh stop whining about DC threads -- I actually want to know. Could we go a year without hiring a DC and then get someone better than what's available out there now? Or is anytime a good time to find DC candidates? Would shorting the coaching staff by one just be too problematic? You wouldn't want to hire a fill-in person if you knew you were going to be hiring someone in a year (well, less than a year -- end of next season).
Maybe? I'd say it's unlikely to be what we do, but hypothetically it could be a better option than whoever's still available out there . . ?
May my postings be polite and not misunderstood. (And hopefully funny on occasion.) -

We'll get someone good.....not worried about it.

i could see us going a year without one. it may not be the ideal situation but rhoads could handle the play calling. it might even be a good way to ease him out of the position. and on top of those things, it would help the athletics depts financial issues.

Re: Could we go a year without a DC?
what is the continual worry about a DC?
geez... he WILL hire one, just not on OUR timeline, but - his.
It's not like they are practicing right now.
let it happen, i'm sure no matter who the selection is --
some will think the sky is falling because of whatever knowledge they think they have and some will trust the coaches decision.
I for one, will wait - and support the team until then.
let's try to talk about ANYTHING else... for a change.

Re: Could we go a year without a DC?
Surprisingly, I actually like this idea. Have PR coach the defense next year and then as soon as we can go looking for a DC, go after him hard. It might not be all the bad seeing as PR was a DC not that long ago

Re: Could we go a year without a DC?
Not a bad idea...I just don't like the idea of having a first year head coach trying to balance that responsibility with preparing the defense all year. That would be a pretty tall task for a first year head coach.

According to an article on rivals, all the coaches have been hired except for LBs and WRs coaches. Hypothetically, I don't think you want to go without a DC, especially for a program under a first year head coach.

We have had a defensive coordinator recently? Did they get paid?

That's why he's disappeared lately.
