How old is he? Didn't someone post awhile ago that we were interviewing a 60+ year old DC candidate and close to a hire?
Just curious, because it seems that person was right. I like the hire regardless.

This is for defensive coordinator though not for head coach. Gene Chizik as defensive coordinator may have been a different story. Love good ole' Grandpa Wally. Hopefully he sticks around for some time can teach our young coaches some new things and can groom one of them for DC once he does retire. I don't think we could have expected a better hire.
I like the prospect of combining his connections in FL with the youth and energy of our current FL recruiting specialist Chris Ash. Even if he doesn't stick around for more than a few years, the connections will still be there when he goes.
DCs generally don't do a ton of recruiting themselves, but he can for sure evluate talent and pass on his connections to our younger guys.
Great get!
These are the kind of hires I was expecting from GC when we put together the salary package we did for the assistants.
Between our new DC and OC I'd say coach PR is perhaps about 10-20 years ahead of where that piece of chiz was when he was here.
To be honest I was expecting after the OC hire, our DC hire would be a bit less exciting, maybe someone from a mid-major conference who had success as a DC. Didn't think I would be able to view both hires as excitingly successful. The pessimism of being a Cyclone fan had apparently made me far to cautious. Solid Hire. I'm excited as hell about next season.
How much more money could we have given him?Quote:
Burnham was USF’s highest-paid assistant last season, earning $220,000.
Something tells me he is coming here to mentor Chris Ash as well. Ash is thought of pretty highly by a lot of people and think he could be the next Bob Stoops if he lines his ducks up right. This guy could be a good mentor to Ash
