When Bates left I absolutely hated him. When I heard the accusations of Chizik treating him poorly I thought that couldn't be true. But now that we have seen Chizik for what he is was Bates right? I say it helps his case but I still don't like him... any thoughts?
He's still a QUITTER in my book. Look at Christensen in Iowa, he had every reason to quit after he lost the starting job to Stanzi but he didn't complain and he still put his work in and left on good terms.
It's possible, but Bates moved on. Chizik moved on. Now we should really move on. Wish him well at Ohio.

Either way he wouldn't have made people happy. It's unfortunate the way it went down but I hold no ill will towards him like I do with GC and WJ. Phillip was between a rock and a hard place and if he wanted to be a starting qb this wasn't the place.
I am interested to see what he can do at Ohio in two seasons and wish the kid the best.

He's not the first, nor the last to leave a program and transfer. I have no hard feelings toward him and will root for him at Ohio. I always liked the kid while he was here. He was terribly mis-managed by the previous staff and I'm not surprised he did what he did. They had no business using him at WR as a freshman and they led him on last year with this crap of "we have 2 legit starting QBs, but AA is going to take the first snap, but it doesn't mean anything!!). That's a poor way to handle things by Chizik and his staff, IMO. Be truthful with the kid.
Wish PB all the luck in the world. He actually won a game for us.

I was more upset about the timing than I was about him just leaving. He wanted to start, and I'm willing to bet his father only made things worse. In football, one guy doesn't make the team. At least not to the degree that they can in basketball. I still intend to hold a grudge against WJ, but Bates? I don't hate him, I don't like him; I nothing him at this point.
Traitor is way too strong for a young man who is just starting to learn to make decisions. I wish he had made a different one, but he didn't, and I wish him well at Ohio.
From all that you hear he is a very likable young man and he just wanted to play qb. It was pretty clear that he was not going to beat out AA, at least in the offense that ISU was running. I see no need for hate here. I wish he would have stayed at ISU, but in the end, it is his life, his choice, and his future.
