I understand what you are saying...but it is up to Ash to determine what is "right". And he might feel he owes it to himself and his family to take the opportunity to be a coordinator at a BCS school at this stage of his life. I do not know what he thinks...none of us do. But only he can decide what is "right" for him.

The second story in the article was about larry. I was just pointing out that at his next school he did not have sucess like he did at ISU. Two players may have signficantly helped him.

I agree...and in this case I believe the conclusion he will come to is that staying at ISU is what is right for himself and his family.

Again, for selfish reasons...I certainly hope you are correct!
Re: Chris Ash may be the new South Florida DC
You guys are being awefully narrowsighted about this.
If Ash was offered this job and turned it down, he should get a mental evaluation.

IMHO, if he is offered that position, he is gone. And I would be happy for him!

I think Ash has some good values and will do what is right.
If a chance like that opened up, I wouldn't say it was a case of poor values if he took the job. Taking care of his family is the most important thing, and if a job like the one we're talking about gives him a better chance to do that, then it's worth doing.
I'm not about chasing money and titles, either, but taking better care of one's family while moving up in their profession isn't a case of bad values. Besides, it's not like he knew this was opening up when he came aboard.
For our sake, I hope he stays. Whatever works out for him, though, I'll support. For what little that is worth:wink:

Again...everyone has different things that are important to them. Not everyone jumps at the "next big thing". Look at Turner Gill for example....still at Buffalo when he could have been making $1-$2M this next year.
Wally made $220k as DC at S. Fla. Ash is probably making around $150k at ISU. He is still very young. I will completely understand if he chooses not to go (if offered).
At the same time, I wouldn't hold it against him if he left to give it a shot.
I don't think it's the no brainer some of you seem to think it is for him though.
Re: Chris Ash may be the new South Florida DC
Ash is/was a VERY good recruiter in Florida and was the point man on Mac's staff for that state. Chris Singleton was among the players that he brought to ISU.
Coaches often recruit more than one area and Ash has very good Florida contacts.
Re: Chris Ash may be the new South Florida DC
Sounds like we need to make him an Assistant Head Coach and give him a longevity bonus.

I think that you are overestimating how much interest there is on the national level for this position. Not very many up-and-coming guys on the hot lists are knocking down Leavitt's door to interview. The proximity to talent is there, but not the pay or working conditions that one would desire.
Re: Chris Ash may be the new South Florida DC
FWIW, Ash was in the offices and working yesterday.

Where are you getting this number? Isn't that high for a position coach? I know the DC/OC makes several hundred but Raney (110) and Koonz (80) made much less.

No he isn't, he has extensive Florida connections, he recruited there all the time in his previous stint at ISU and in his current stint.
